R1/24 Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State
A big bruising back with only two years of Div I collegiate football miles on 'em; he's a big back with some burst that the Saints haven't had since Deuce; he is a former JUCO AllAmerican; he was the main focus of KState's offense this past season which under Bill Snyder's passer friendly system, says alot. This is, my friends, is Deuce Redux... R2/56 Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma Go to Roman Harper's Wikipedia page and you'll see 'em swinging a golf club; picking Carter would help 'em stay there; he has excellent coverage skills at S: Fluid, Good Angles, Smart and has excellent community track record; not sure he's be there this late but would be a steal at this slot ... R3/72 Jarvis Jenkins, DT, Clemson Big Defensive Tackle, who can rush the passer and occupy multiple blockers; teamed with Ellis, it could allow the Saints former first round pick to finally put up numbers he was unable to do on his own... R3/88 Thomas Keiser, OLB, Stanford Big linebacker, comparable in size to Fujita; played well in the Stanford's 3-4 alignment, but get this...was an All-American Freshman as a Defensive End; this guy has a year left, but is an Academic Senior; Sean Payton kind of player... R7/** Jamari Lattimore, OLB, Middle Tennessee St 2010 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, despite being on a losing team; the guy never quit; most likely small college kid to make it big... |

As sweet as it would be to get a big-time RB or a great safety with our first round pick, the fact remains that the way you win football games is with a strong pass rush. This team's defensive ends were pretty much non-existent this season (Will Smith had 5.5 sacks, and faced a lot of double teams because Alex Brown did nothing). If this team can get a pass rushing threat to complement Will Smith, it will make our secondary look much better.
I do think we need to invest a second or third round pick in a running back. My list of priorities: DE, OLB, RB, S |
The way our oline got tooled, especially both our tackles, makes that need glaring. We shouldnt have to rely on a once in a generation back to create a running game. How about a line that can move a de out of the way? Or one that gives brees more than 2.5 seconds out of the gun.

We didn't run because we didn't have a Running Back; Ivory, Thomas were Rookie FA's behind this line...
We need a big RB to complement Reggie, Pierre/Ivory... |
