Brees will probably get around a 7 year extension in the neighborhood of about $160 million. No idea on how much of that would be guaranteed, but I would be willing to say at least a third. I know these dollars sounds outrageous, but considering the money the top QB's are getting these numbers sound about right.

Yes, quite certain any one of the above QB's would throw more interceptions when forced into a "NO" running game for most of the season. Other than the interceptions, you cannot complain about Drew Brees this season and be realistic. I'll take my chances with Brees any day of the week because I know at the end of the day, he has the Saints best interest at heart. |

If both the team and Brees are in the LEAST bit smart, they would realize that the more they commit to Brees, the less likely it is that the team returns to the Super Bowl. Our squad is virtually depthless except at WR. No team can survive an 18 week season without a lot of quality players. The more Brees takes off the table, the more we'll have a season like the last, decent but not championship. Brees won't make the Hall unless he has 2 rings. He should know that and do whatever it takes to make a serious run.
I'm not against paying him a lot of money, I'm against crippling the team. 1 player on 53 should not get more than 8% of cap per year. You wonder why the Colts and the G-dudes are suffering??? hell, TB nearly made the playoffs with the 3rd lowest total salary, and the chiefs were in with the lowest. Spend smart guys. Don't take it all off the table. |

So what you are saying is you believe that signing Brees to a 100 Million Dollar contract some how hurts the Saints and the money could be used elsewhere to sign other players to better the team. This arguement really doesn't hold water since Brees is the team. Try to imagine the team without him.
If the job pays a 100 Million Dollars, I for one think he's earned it. |

If the object is to win a Super bowl, all I need to say is Trent Dilfer. Screw the belief that you need to pay a qb $100 million. You get a lot of well paid talent you'll kick the crap out of one superstar and a bunch of looksquadders. Just look at the 2010 saints.

If you think Drew doesn't deserve the money, just imagine this team with Aaron Brooks at the helm...
