Talking Saints sign Shaun Rogers!!!!

The New Orleans Saints have signed free agent defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.

Rogers' deal is worth $4 million, a league source told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Rogers, a former three-time Pro Bowl player, was cut on Feb. 9 after playing sparingly during the 2010 season due to ankle, hip and elbow injuries. He had been scheduled to make $5.5 million in 2011 with a $500,000 roster bonus.

Lost in the news about Rogers at the bottom of the article, Hartley to sign an extension Wednesday for 5 years.

I'm sure this will come with mixed emotions, but I like the kid. Glad to see him sticking around.

Good! It would have been folish to let Hartley go. He's really developing into a fine kicker.

I think Hartley is going to be fine. He did have his struggles, but I like the way he kept his head up and rebounded.

Wow... 4 million. I figured it would be less with some incentive clauses built in. Nonetheless, if we get a motivated Shaun Rogers next to Ellis, and draft an effective pass rusher in the draft, our defense could get ugly... in a good way.

We still need to draft Temple's Muhammad Wilkerson or Oregon's Stephen Paea...

i was thinking the same thing with paea. he has supposedly slipped down boards due to his knee injury. i dont think it would be a bad idea at all to draft him and let him learn the first few months of the season. DTs usually take a year or so to come up to speed anyway, it could be a long term solution to the DT problem. Maybe the front office is thinking that Shaun signing a one year contract could fill that space.

DT Stroud's signing with New England likely precipitated this.
