OPINION When the sun rose Wednesday over the bayous of southern Louisiana, you had to wonder why the Saints hadn’t made another transaction, why we hadn’t heard about another eyebrow raising free agency grab. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has been that good and that busy this past week. Yes, in 144 hours, Loomis has done more with Tom Benson’s money and the hearts of so many Saints fans than anyone could ever have expected when the lockout ended July 25. Together with Saints coach Sean Payton, Loomis has identified where the team needed to upgrade – and thrown darts at bull’s-eyes, hitting center every time he needed to. Full article below. Saints' Loomis, Payton should be applauded for free agency moves | wwltv.com New Orleans Last edited by papz; 12-24-2011 at 07:46 PM.. |

The Saints have some of the best coaches in the entire league. Bookmark that.
It ain't bragging when its truth. It really is quite nice actually having coaches. Remember Ditka? Nuff said. |

I just hope that they will be able to work out a new contract with SP and that he will be motivated to stay and continue
to build on what they've already accomplished since 2006. I mean there's always the chance that he would want a new challenge, but hopefully that will be a decade down the road. Another issue is how long will the Saints be able to hold on to GW, since he has already been targeted for head coaching positions, and I have to believe that he will not be content at just staying a DF long term. Also, finally, I think that if the ST play does not pick up this year - which I think it will due to the emphasis it has been given in the camp - McMahon's position has to be addressed! Oh, and lock up ML for long term! |

As for GW, I couldn't blame the guy if he left for a head coaching job, because I'm quite sure that's his ultimate goal, but I hope he remembers that SP gave him $250k of his own salary and hired his son to get him here (that has to hold at least some weight right?). His departure is inevitable, but hopefully its not imminent. Not only do I agree with you that the ST play needs to be addressed, but strength and conditioning also needs to be addressed if we have as many injuries as we had last year. |

Williams is gone if we win another SB. He would get whatever he would ask, but the situation would have to be right. Payton will probably ride this horse into the ground and wouldn't bolt or consider other options until he had to totally rebuild any way. At that point, most fickle fans would be ready to run him out of town anyway.
