No. I remember it was just the talking heads calling Drew's injury career threatening. All the former players (including Archie) and medical folks like the surgeon to the stars Dr. Andrews (Even though he has since changed his story recently for more TV time) all said the injury was not career threatening.

I definitely wanted Brees the second I heard we had a shot at getting him. I had been paying a lot of attention to the Chargers at that point, mainly because of L.T. He was great fun to watch in his prime. I knew damn well Drew was a super high quality QB.

I did think Culpepper could be a good QB, but it was way too soon after his injury for him to be playing. He SHREDDED that knee. He tore the ACL, the MCL, AND the PCL. He should NOT have been on a football field at ALL that season.

Now, before the Drew option came up, the two QBs I was interested in were Kyle Boller and Jon Kitna. After a few rough years, it really looked like Boller finally got it! He was playing his ass off at the end of the '05 season. Then they replaced him with McNair. And Kitna I always felt was a good QB, stuck on a lousy Bengals team. I figured he could be the game manager that we needed in New Orleans. With Deuce and Horn and Pathon we had a good enough offense to win games as long as we had a QB who could actually read a defense and not throw the f'n ball backwards or drop it for no good reason.
