It's Official, The Louisiana Superdome will now be "Mercedes-Benz Superdome"
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints and Mercedes-Benz announced Monday that they have reached a 10-year naming rights agreement that will turn the 36-year-old Louisiana Superdome into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Officials from the Saints, Mercedes-Benz and the state are expected to make the official announcement at a news conference Tuesday at the iconic stadium on Poydras Street where they'll unveil plans for the new signage in and around the stadium, where the Mercedes-Benz name and logo will be featured prominently. "This is a great, great partnership," Gov. Bobby Jindal said Monday. "I know for many years there have been attempts to sell this sponsorship, and I think the restructured deal and the new Superdome are two of the reasons this is actually happening. So I think this is great for the Saints and great for the state." It has been speculated that naming rights might be in the works, and there were rumors of a few different corporations mentioned, but apparently nothing was finalized until now. Mecedes-Benz does have an international reputation and is known for being classy. At least the dome isn't going to be known by a cheesy sounding corporate name like a few other stadiums and facilities. Very Classy!
It's good for the money, but I think changing the name sucks. Even if it the Mercedes Benz Superdome. That just sounds like **** to me.
I would have preferred the Kawasaki Super Dome personally...
As long as we keep winning in it they can call it the Blues Clues Super Duper Dome for all i care lol

Maybe we can go with the German angle a little further and have frauleins serving beer in steins..... |
Can anyone work up a pic of the roof of the dome with the mercedes symbol.
I don't like it. But I don't like selling naming rights to stadiums period. And to top it off we sold them to a foreign company from a country that doesn't know or care what American Football is.
Not that I like it, but I think that's the best company to have the rights. You can't go wrong with a nice, black Mercedes. Gold rims? Awwww shiz.

I'm sorry, but that's just ignorant from your part! :annoyed: Germany has actually a very healthy team & fan base when it comes to American football - their national league has a 3-level divisional structure with 14 teams in division 1, 16 in div 2, and 25 teams in div 3. Germany is currently ranked 4th by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) - behind USA, Japan and Canada - and they are the 2010 European Champions. While American football is certainly not the biggest sport in Germany - and never will be - it has a strong following and a fairly large number of active players. To just make a blanket statement like you did really annoys me, because you clearly made no effort to actually research the fact before spewing out your ignorance in this thread. http://780x378-1.ikiwq.com/n3P45Ka9DwFkeDAXamyDNa.png http://www.starletscheerleader.de/co...GermanBowl.jpg BTW, just to rub it in Crusader's face: team Finland finally ended its losing streak against team Sweden with a 35-34 win in the annual rivalry game on Saturday. http://www.ifaf.org/img/media/thumbn...64-388x230.jpg |
In the Ditka years they'd of gotten Yugo to sponsor the dome, so I'll take a Benz in a New York second.
I think it's a good deal for everyone. I know we all like tradition, but it's time to keep moving the city forward. I would have liked a local company, but not that many of them have that kind of cheddar
This deal is is a high class automaker paired with a high class football team. The best thing is that the state gets off the hook and can spend that money on more important things.
Well, Germany has bailed out the entire EU, so why not Louisiana?
I like it because it brings in money, and the reality is that no fan will actually ever call the dome "The Mercedes-benz Superdome", so why does it matter? |
BTW, did you play Saturday Crusader?
The Benzo Dome, not too bad!
I have and always will refer to it as "The Dome."
Take the German euros and run with it! Maybe they will name a car after Drew next. The Brees Class Mercedes Benz! A top performance car!
Ausgezeichnet!
I thought it was funny that the funeral of Archbishop Hannan took second fiddle to the re-naming of the Superdome. New Orleans loves their Saints.
Somebody stole my emblem off my Mercedes. Now I know what happened to it.

Unser Haus
I watched the Rams-Pats Super Bowl in Germany and I can tell you there were a lot of Germans who saw it and were talking about it. Tom Nuetten (Rams) speaks German and they had interviews with him that people could understand. There are lots non-Americans who follow the NFL.
IMO we could do a lot worse than partnering with a company known for being a premium brand. |
Here is how I feel about.
I used to be a big NASCAR guy until NASCAR killed NASCAR. Anyway, LOWES Home Improvement bought the naming rights to Charlotte Motor Speedway and renamed it to LOWES Speedway. Well, after a couple of years of fans and even announcers calling it Charlotte MS instead of LOWES MS.... even after LOWES wrote a memorandum to NASCAR telling them that NASCAR and it's T.V. commentators to stop using the name Charlotte and ONLY use the name LOWES.....it is now called Charlotte again. I don't care what some company names the Dome. It will always be the Louisiana Super Dome. So who cares. If it helps the team in some way...do it. |
Do we have the classiest Name for stadium or WHAT!? WHO DAT!!!!!
NFC East Dallas Cowboys (Dallas Cowboys New Stadium) - Ordinary New York Giants (Giants Stadium) - Bleh - Ordinary Philadelphia Eagles (Lincoln Financial Field) - Eh ok. Washington Redskins (FedExField) - an attempt to be out of the box. NFC North Chicago Bears (Soldier Field II) - Always like that name but it's plain and dry. Detroit Lions (Ford Field) - LOL @ fords. Green Bay Packers (Lambeau Field) - It's decent if you live in Greenbay. Minnesota Vikings (Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome) - Horrible Naming. NFC South Atlanta Falcons (Georgia Dome) - LMAO.. Carolina Panthers (Bank of America Stadium) - This Bank SUCKS and their new fee's will suck more. New Orleans Saints (Mercedes-Benz Superdome) - Smooth & Classy.. (Althought they could have removed the Super off Dome).. We're going to always call it "Superdome" But for cosmetic purposes Mercedes-Benz Dome would suffice. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Raymond James Stadium) - Rolls off the tongue nicely, plus they are headquartered in St Pete. NFC West Arizona Cardinals (University of Phoenix Stadium) - Makes sense. San Francisco 49ers (Candlestick Park) - I can't say much about it.. too historic. Seattle Seahawks (CenturyLink Field) - CenturyLink is headquarted in Monroe, La.. don't you think it would have been smart to fight over naming rights for the Superdome? (CenturyLink Dome sounds cool too).. St Louis Rams (Edward Jones Dome) - Lmao.. AFC East Buffalo Bills (Ralph Wilson Stadium) - Clever. Miami Dolphins (Dolphin Stadium) - Makes since.. But it's a shared stadium. New England Patriots (Gillette Stadium) - Actually pretty cool name. New York Jets (Giants Stadium) - Some team wanted to make sure they say "It's MINES!" AFC North Baltimore Ravens (M&T Bank Stadium) - Not a good name at all Cincinnati Bengals (Paul Brown Stadium) - REALLY NOT A GOOD NAME Cleveland Browns (Cleveland Browns Stadium) - Name sucks. Pittsburgh Steelers (Heinz Field) - I think Ketchup. AFC South Houston Texans (Reliant Stadium) - it's aiight.. Indianapolis Colts (Lucas Oil Stadium) - This is a horrible name for a stadium. Jacksonville Jaguars (EverBank Field) - Jags are just glad to have someone sponsoring their stadium. Tennessee Titans (LP Field) - Decent. AFC West Denver Broncos (Invesco Field) - Huh? Kansas City Chiefs (Arrowhead Stadium) - Cool if it was a college stadium. Oakland Raiders (Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum) - Highschool Football Stadium naming here. San Diego Chargers (Qualcomm Stadium) - actually not bad. |
I am sure the late Dave Dixon would have had something to say about this deal, and probably nothing too kind at that.
The name is great with me.. i'll still call it Superdome, im glad they left "Superdome on it" for the Locals to say it.. But i don't see any problem with it at all.. especially since this is a VERY nice Premium car brand not to mention this German Car company has MOOONNNNNEYYY, Im thinking a lot of new fancy and futuristic upgrades are in the works and finally finishing the Dome roof which is still incomplete.
If the contract extends through the life of the Superdome which is 2015 or 2020, i don't think we'll have a problem getting a New stadium built in the city. |
Does this make it official that the Saints are the "World's Team" now?
Well, it beats the Enzyte SuperDome or the Go-Daddy SuperDome or the Oprah Winfrey Channel Network SuperDome.
Good thing all that money goes to the Saints instead of our pisspoor state. |

I kinda of like it ..lots of German fans will be coming and free agents will be lining up to come play in the Benz Dome...
Just shows how big buisness is. I've seen concerts there, driven by countless times I'll always know it as" The Louisiana Superdome" and I always will no matter what other people call it. Stuck in time I guess but proud of it. I still buy American.

Well at least it's still Super. I would have been pissed if they would have called it the MB Dome.
i hate it - beyond words!
I say just don't use the name - period - never utter it - such as National Airport in DC. What has Mercedes ever done for New Orleans? Ruined my day - hell ruined my season. |
At least it AINT the FORD PINTO SUPERDOME
