this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; With Porter, Greer, Robinson, Harper, and Jenkins...I think those guys are studs. Harper is a hitter, not great in cover...but I think you need a guy like Harper and Jenkins at safety. Guys that will unload on the other guy ...

Where our LB'ers are at on the field makes a difference, too. However, with all that said, I have gone down on record a long time ago as saying that consistent, fierce pressure on the QB all day long makes all-pros out of guys like the ones previously mentioned. |

Lets face it.... we need a butt kickin, hell raisin, head ripper-offer LineBacker.
O-Line and Defense needs to be our entire focus in the draft and FA this year. Not just picking up guys that "Have potential". I'm not sticking up for Shanle anymore. The guy is a bum and needs to be gone. |

I recognize that there are problems going on, but I am gonna hold out and wait a bit longer for our BRAND NEW SECONDARY COACH to kind of gel and find his footing, before I throw the likes of Greer and Porter and the whole secondary under the bus. The problem in the secondary right now is not lack of player talent, it's coaching (and lack of pressure on the QB).
Secondary aggravations that people talk about here week in and week out, this season: - ridiculous 10 yard cushion off the receiver - dropping/not catching INTS on the hands or right on the numbers - jumping routes on pump fakes and getting burned a la the Seattle game - bad tackling and yet all these same guys we're talking about, 18 months or so ago, they USED to do these things really well, even sometimes were GREAT at it. It's got to be coaching -- I'm fairly convinced that a significant chunk of the current lame-ness in the secondary is related to 1) no pressure on the QB and to 2) Dennis Allen leaving as secondary coach to go to the Broncos. Because up until the end of last season these same exact group of guys used to look a lot BETTER out there. What changed? The secondary coach! |
