I think this is what some people fail to understand. We don't need to have the top defense... or even one of the top defenses in this league to accomplish our goal. We've done it before... as have many other teams that has won a Superbowl.

This is correct you do not have to have the best D, but if you don't you better be getting turnovers.
The last 8 Superbowl winners have all been in the top 10 in at-least 1 of the 3 categories. The last 8 Superbowl losers with the exception of 1 (Cardinals) have been in the top 10 in at-least 1 of the 3 categories. In fact 6 of the 8 Superbowl winners have been in the top 10 in turnovers. Packers 2nd points, 5th yards, 4th turnovers Saints 20th Points, 25th yards, 3rd Turnovers Steelers 1st Points, 1st yards, 11th turnovers Giants 17th points, 7th yards, 26th turnovers Colts 17th points, 21st yards, 6th turnovers Steelers 3rd points, 4th yards, 9th turnovers Patriots 2 points, 9th yards, 8th turnovers Patriots 1st points, 7th yards, 2nd turnovers There is also something to be said about getting hot at the right time. The 2007 giants and the 2008 Cardinals turned into turnover machines in the playoffs. I think the saints defense is decent, and the rams game was an improvement in terms of the Saints Defense. But right now the D is not dominating in any category. Again I am actually a Greg Williams supporter, just stating the facts. |

I saw three dropped INTS this week...our DBs just cant catch..when we had Sharper back there we feasted...i don't think we can be a dominate D with our personnel... If we can get to middle of the road..with our offense that would be enough....

Indeed the entire secondary seems to have stone hands.

I think the biggest issue has to be the dropped interceptions, which has been occurring all season long. Gregg Williams is running a high risk/high reward type of defense, but seriously, when you get a chance at the high reward play, like an interception, you need to capitalize on it.

Talked to one of his former players, turnovers is not the big key to the defence for GW. getting to the QB is, thats why we are blitzing like crazy. Turnovers is just a positive side-effect.

I think we should look a the players as well as the coaching. Our D line and secondary are overrated by us locals, and the linebackers....well yea, they stink. Vilma has to be hurting more than anyone is leading on. he doesn't look like he wants to be out there at times.

He does look less animated this year, not much emotion. Even when they make a solid play. The long 3rd down conversions though are becoming too frequent. 3rd and 12, 3rd and 15....very troubling. Add to that the missed turnovers opportunities. Brees has to have an amazing performance to compensate for it. He can do it but not every single game.
