And I think that if there's someone who lost in that deal it would be Bush himself, but that is hard to estimate because he never entered the FA market and so we can never know what his market value would've been. If you look at it from that standpoint - the Saints franchise owe gratitude toward Bush for handling the situation as he did, nevermind what he has said since in the media. |

Yes, you are correct, but that doesn't change the fact that MIA couldn't know that for sure, and we can't know for sure if MIA was really where Bush wanted to go above any other potential suitors. They wanted Bush, probably more for his star power than actual ability, and giving up a ST player and a possible draft pick in order to secure the rights to negotiate with Bush without any outside interference was in all likelihood a good decision on their part, which may have actually saved them money or other commodities. Therefore, I wouldn't say that the Saints "stole" the pick - if there will be any in the end - because it was payment for a service rendered as I described above. |
