this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Anybody think Peyton is worth his giant contract that restricts his team to the point where they have to cut 10 players to make cap room just for him?...

What a Bledsoe when with the Pats, or Culpepper with the Vikes ??

How hard is it for the Colts? Leave him franchised and save more money than a new deal would cost.

Heck if someone wants to franchise tag me and pay me 18 million so be it... Manning has had nothing to say about it thus far and don\'t blame him either... CO-MVP, I\'d say he deserves it.

Would I re-negoticate my contrat in hopes to win a tittle sure but figure how much power manning has in who they bring in... if he doesn\'t like whom they are trying to bring in then he can say \'nope, not renegociating\'. But Manning has to make every buck he can and you can\'t blame a guy for that, you can\'t expect a guy to work for nothing???

Uhhh, no. It costs around $17m to keep him franchised. They could easily drop that number to $11m/year with a long term deal.

I\'m not blaming Manning. I\'m simply suggesting that MAYBE the Colts could do better by spending that money elsewhere. Manning is undoubtedly important to that team and one of the best QBs in the league... when was the last time a top QB was in the SB again? Anyone, anyone? Beuller? Beuller?

The Colts would have had to cut E. James had they kept him franchisen since it would have been an 18.5 hit towards the cap while this deal makes him only 9 against the cap. Saved money, IMO.
