I do think that statement was the authors opinion, but that would be dumb if he did leave Brees and the starters in for the sake of the record. The only reason Payton should keep the starters in is if the SF/Rams game is close. If SF is ahead by two scores or more by the half you rest your starters after the half. You play to win otherwise.
