Shanle-'Opponents solved Williams defense'

I hate to go back to the Buddy Ryan days but the whole league knew he ran the 46-week in and out and if memory serves correct they never got gashed in the run nor the pass in the manner our defense has played also GW didn’t have the type of players he truly needed to run that system. Just think if we had the one stud D-lineman and the one stud LB (Vilma was approaching studdism prior to injuries) the tunes would have been different. Granted they may come up with an offense game plan but if your D is on it’s on. The Giants and 49ers play that type of D all season so no SHANLE they figured out that YOU and ROMAN HARPER are week links in coverage. If it was me Fujita would have stayed;

Yes, the 46 defense was an innovation 25 years ago, and yes, that one 1985 season the Bears D was awesome and was good for 1 SB (although Miami hung 38 points on them on their way there). But they got figured out too. Just took a couple of years longer it takes to figure out stagnant systems now.

If we bring up the past to use as a comparison for situations today, I think I'd compare GW's defense with the old Packer sweep. Everyone knew the sweep was coming, how it was coming, when it was coming, yet, no one could stop it. They ran that sweep half of their offensive snaps. Do you think that would work today? Of course not. Today, they would have to disguise it with formations, movement, calls at the line, etc. Same as with GW's defense. You know what's coming, you know how it is coming, when, so teams prepare better for it and know how to beat it.

I must say I'm a little stunned to see Shanle said something like this. It is true and someone had to say it, I'm just surprised Shanle stepped up and said it.

Theres a bunch of Shanle haters out there and a few Shanle supporters, all in all you have to give him credit where its due though, the guy came into the league as a 7th rounder got bounced around from St. Louis to Dallas then got traded for a 7th rounder to New Orleans, won a Super Bowl Ring. All you haters ***** and moan about how mediocre he is. SOMETIMES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

maybe shanle was figured out not GW. a. smith had him spinin like a top on the CATCH. POUR Bastard he tried though. lol.

7th rounder, if he played like Colston than yeah other than that Shanle's a no go!!!!

Scott is right. a blitz is supposed to be a surprise. we did it so much, teams knew the middle of the field would be wide open, there would also be man to man on the outside and if no one is open, theres no one left the watch for the QB which led to Smith's td run and other big plays. I've been sayn this for years!!!!!!!!!1

I'm not going to say much else on this subject. I believe I have made my feelings known.

To clear up some things from earlier in this thread, I want to explain my rationale.

To me, if you are saying anything other than: He sucks, he is the worst Lb on this team, he is garbage or he is below average, you are a Shanle supporter.

I'm not knocking those on here that are. Everyone is entitled to there opinion. Hope this clears any earlier transgressions up.
