Mainstream. 3 They have played shows with a Symphony Orchestra. (Now I'm not suggesting this) but they can be very versatile, on how they play. Ok here me out. Remember back in 2006 when the saints came back into the dome for the first time. U2 and Green Day played along with Rebirth Brass Band and a bunch of other local talent. That was at least to me amazing. Mardi Gras Indians kicked it on the stage. you see where I'm going with this. So why can't this be done again? I think it could work, and if y'all disagree. Fine I can buy into it, if you tell me why it can not. You get Kermit Ruffins doing his thing with other NOLA talent. It would be almost a duplicate show, a fun show that could work. Hell throw in some more acts as well then split time with a different artist. Just don't say they would not work, cause they sure as hell can. |

I would love to have local act's but the local act's would have to appeal to everybody not just Local Louisiana folks, sorry to burst bubbles but a huge part of America don't even know what Zydeco or Cajun music is althought if it's incorporated into the main artist show it could come out nicely i guess..
If New Orleans is going to pull some local act's it has to be someone nationally known, we can't put Lil Wayne on stage for obvious reasons, Ledisi is great but she's not entertaining enough however she' would be awesome for the National Anthem though adding that jazzy swing to it. Britney Spears isn't from New Orleans but she's local and could probably throw a nice show but the NFL would be bracing themselves for an article of clothing to be removed. Dawn formally from P-Diddy's Danity cane is from New Orleans and is an AWESOME singer and can perform like any other R&B/Pop power artist.. This could help ignite her career and rep New Orleans at the sametime, kills a lot of birds with one stone. Her Album is scheduled to drop in a month or so, so if she can pull off some hits on that album i think she would make an excellent choice as a Local national name artist that make music that appeal to more than some gulf-south residents. New Orleans has a few Metal Bands that could go up like Down or Crowbar.. but um.. not sure if they have any track's they could actually play in a Superbowl without it being censored. |

One of the pitfalls of having some of the groups that you guys have been discussing is the fact that it might be too much work building all the ramps going to the stage instead of stairs...and then you have to make sure that your stock of Depends is adequate.
C'mon, man!! Why does it have to be a rock group or musical act...or whatever. I'd much rather listen to a good comedian...or even watch ballet...or "River Dancing." Don't get me wrong...I don't mind watching a good group perform, but I would prefer to watch them when they are in their prime...not 30 years later. I know, I know...I am an old fart, too...but that doesn't mean I have to live in the past. The only problem with today's music is that it is mostly rap...and I ain't even down wit dat!! |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

Just remember, the NFL books the show, not the host stadium. So a bad show shouldn't be held against any city hosting the superbowl.

Like I said above, The city of New Orleans and the Saints have no control on who performs at the superbowl. The can make suggestions to the NFL but it is the NFL that chooses the performers.

Good point, but I'd hope the host city would have some say about it. Technically it shouldn't tarnish the host city, but perception is reality and I'd hate for all the talking heads to start whining about it, because I do think that will influence the NFL's decisions.

Where I have to disagree with a lot of you here, is when you suggest something that is "cool," like Metallica. Bear in mind, 80% of the world is not "cool." Forget about cool. I dont listen to Madonna, but Danno is right. She did exactly what a SB Halftime gig calls for. A big production. This is not art. It is showbiz, and she's perfect for tv. Its not about rocking the "cool" people. Its about putting on a show for a billion people. I personally would like to hear Led Zeppelin. The rest of the world wouldnt. I am a DJ, and I specialize in entertaining mixed groups of people--- all ages, all types, together in the same room. Im not a club DJ, or a house DJ -- I'm mostly weddings & corporate events. The first thing I have to do is kick out anything that is too hardcore in any direction: (So Im not playing Worship Me, Kill Your Parents by DevilScrotum, or Man, My Sister's Hot - by Billy Bob Clampett, or Kill that Policeman by BabyDaddy G. feat T. Felon.) Once the crowd trusts me & understands the program, then sure, we can do something crazy later. And if somebody hires me for a private party, and everyone is into the same thing, you bet, I can go crackhouse, satan rage, redneck, 80s drug party, whatever they like. The good of the many outweighs the good of the one. There's always the buttplug that shows up, while the rest of the crowd is celebrating happily to pop music, who thinks the room wants to hear Pantera. I cant help this guy. All I can do is wait until he's 40, so he'll understand. Remember, they used to bring in Up With People and everyone still watched. Much of the world loves Louisiana, even if they dont understand it. Louisiana Legends, (Like Irma Thomas & Aaron Neville & and Harry C. jr) along with a Cajun & Zydeco cameo, backed by Southern U & Grambling Bands would be a rocking show, and a 100 million dollars worth of promotion. much love for all, mikey |
