The NFL’s investigation regarding the use by the Saints of a bounty program began after a Super Bowl run that featured big hits on Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and Vikings quarterback Brett Favre.
“Our investigation began in early 2010 when allegations were first made that Saints players had targeted opposing players, including Kurt Warner of the Cardinals and Brett Favre of the Vikings,” Commissioner Goodell said in the league’s release announcing the determination that the “bounty” rules had been violated. “Our security department interviewed numerous players and other individuals. At the time, those interviewed denied that any such program existed and the player that made the allegation retracted his earlier assertions. As a result, the allegations could not be proven. We recently received significant and credible new information and the investigation was re-opened during the latter part of the 2011 season.” That “significant and credible new information” possibly came from a former Saints player or coach with direct knowledge of the bounty program. You know Gregg Williams was one of the rats. Maybe even Bobby McCray... he's one of the main culprits of these "dirty hits" on Favre and if I remember correctly, it was kind of a surprise that he wasn't resigned after that season... He hasn't done anything since so he might be bitter. I'm just speculating and rambling though because this whole thing pisses me off so much.

Please. Everyone calm down.
Coaches make statements like this all the time. Players indicate "bounties" have been leveed on other players every year. Show me documentation of players being reimbursed for hits on other players. Ever. This is Goodell doing his best to rid the league of mercenary players. What is he going to do.... Ban the Saints from playing in the Superbowl??? I didn't think so... |

I know it's natural to overreact to such a thing. Every team does this whole bounty thing... but in this case we have our former defensive coordinator admitting that it happened. It's not just accusations. Even though it's probably very common, we are the first to have a member of the organization at the time admit it and therefore I think we're going to have the book thrown at us.

Otherwise, it's a motivating tactic made by the DC to get his players in the game. i mean, My God - it's not like we had the defensive stats to back it up.. |

I'd target the QB everygame without a Bounty. Difference between a legal hard hit and illegal dirty hit. I'd pay a "bounty" for a legal hard hit everytime.

Thank you!! Atleast I know I am not crazy for thinking the same things. I want proof!! 50,000 pages seems a wee excessive.
