They would make it up because there is no way it could be disproved. Do not forget that ALL electronics in the Dome were destroyed and had to be replaced after Katrina. You can declare that Caesar had a pimp on his left butt cheek when assassinated. Easy to do now with no evidence.

The same reason that the Bounty thing got twisted from "pay for performance" to "pay to injure" without any real PROOF, except an uncorroborated story about Vilma, that other people who were in the room say never happened that way. It could be the same reason that Darren Sharper said from the very beginning -- it was an employee who got terminated, and has a vendetta against the Saints organization.

Disgruntled employee gets terminated, has a grudge against the Saints, against Payton and Loomis. Then he waits until the bounties thing has Loomis on the ropes, before he drops a dime on him. Why else would this "source" who is supposedly "familiar with game day operations" wait 8 years to bring this up? You would think they would bring it up either right after it happened, or right after the Super Bowl win. But the "source" waited. It almost has to be someone who was in the organization and was terminated.

This smells to me like somebody is trying to take down Mickey Loomis. It hurts him regardless of whether it is factual or not. I would not be at all surprised if the origin of this story was the same exact person who was the origin of the "bounty" story.

Now if Jim Letten comes out and says he finds something there, then I will absolutely be the first one to throw Loomis under the bus and call for him to be burned in effigy. I trust Jim Letten, but I don't trust an unnamed "source" talking to ESPN.

I haven't stopped my television on NFLN OR ESPN since the whole bountygate thing started...same for radio. I've stopped dropping by and contributing to the NFC South blog on ESPN.COM - in part because I was flaming them so bad they banned me. Still...

If this is false, and it sure looks like it is, the Saints as an organization should start holding the NFL and ESPN responsible.

The NFL for leaking the bountygate crap (which they still have yet to provide any real evidence) to the media, one trickle at a time, to their "trusted" sources.

ESPN for willingly broadcasting this crap. Call them morally corrupt. Call them a disgrace to journalism. Call them tabloid media. Whatever, just do it in a very public way.

Call press conferences. Grant interviews to non-sports media like Rolling Stone or Playboy or GQ or whatever. Participate with the NFL's chosen media sources only as much as is contractually required and not a single word more...not a single minute more. This is out of control and maybe, just maybe, our beloved Saints are in a position to call them all to the carpet. Let's embarrass John Clayton, Ashley Fox, Pat Yasinskas and the rest in as public a way as is possible. Call them out BY NAME! Let's hold the producers of outside the lines to the fire, and if legal action is an option, lets take it to it's fullest extent.

I could see closed to the media practices all week every week during the season as for Loomis, he needs to sue ESPN and the coward that spoke up with this lie in the first place for everything he can get

Apparently the FBI is involved too. If proven, it is a violation of NFL rules, and potentially a federal crime under the EPCA of 1986. I remain neutral to this, however, until I am told otherwise, I feel there is some truth to this. Keyword: feel

As for me, I prefer the innocent until proven otherwise angle...but that's just me...and I'd feel the same if this were happening to Atlanta. It is irresponsible to plaster "This is Big" as the tag to the lead story when the only 'evidence' is 'somebody said'.

But you feel however you'd like to feel. That's just my .02.

And I choose to assume not guilty unless and until somebody comes forth with evidence. You can't "feel" anything based on anything more than what some 'unknown' 'source' has said. Doesn't take much for you to 'feel' that there 'might be' some 'sliver' of truth to a thing. It takes a LOT for me. We're different. It's all good.

Just to clarify, (if it needs clarification, which I'm not sure that it does), me having a feeling doesn't mean that I solidly believe. I like your approach, and I'm sure I would be the same if it were affecting my team. But it isn't, and thus I now see the opposite side of it. You guys are a lot better that I thought you may be towards what I am saying. I have heard good things about Saints fans, and so far, you all are proving them correct. Keep it up
