Kind of agree with this take I read:
Two Words For You: TRADE. ELI. The "character" thing: NFL draftniks, GMs and fans all pay it a ton of lip service. So I wonder if Eli Manning's demand to be shipped to New York -- or, more accurately, to not play for San Diego -- will hurt his draft grade? (Why do I think it won't?) It should. What a punk! Teams draft the players, not the other way around. The system works because the struggling teams get the player that best fits their needs. Here's an irony: All Mike Williams wants to do is play in the NFL -- and he can't; meanwhile, Manning is acting like a prima donna before he even gets to the draft podium. If I was a Chargers fan, I wouldn't even want Manning anymore. Forget it: Ship his overrated keister to the Giants Then at No. 4, draft Philip Rivers, who will be a better NFL QB than Manning anyway. |

Looks like the consumate team player might not be one afterall. All that talent -- all that \"class\" -- and he pulls something like this 2 days before the draft. If I were the Chargers I\'d draft him anyway just to piss him off. What a little punk.

Archie doesn\'t want Eli to go to the Chargers. Makes me think he probably wouldn\'t want Eli to play for one of the most losing teams in NFL history -- The New Orleans Saints-- Sure makes me wonder.....

I think Elway had something else to fall back on. Draft him, he would not start anyway, if he holds out good you dont have to pay him,. Hold him out a year, someone will trade a first for him next year. Worst case you dont pay the pr***k he has to sit out, and thats hard one them to keep up. Next year trade him for a high first you\'ll have two first, the cap space to cover them, and who know Drew may show something, ya never know...

So what are you saying by that statement? His rights won\'t be traded a month after he\'s drafted, out of fear that he may pursue a baseball career if he\'s not traded? do you got a grammar? [Edited on 22/4/2004 by BlackandBlue] |
