Appalachian State's Travaris Cadet works out for Dolphins
by Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, April 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm ET

Travaris Cadet Profile

Appalachian State all-purpose running back Travaris Cadet participate in the Miami Dolphins' local prospect day, auditioning at wide receiver, running back, kick returner and punt returner.

Cadet met with Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman.

Cadet has had a dinner meeting with the San Francisco 49ers and is also drawing interest from the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys, according to a league source.

The speedy 6-foot-1, 210-pounder rushed for 651 yards and six touchdowns last season, catching 34 passes for 333 yards and a touchdown. He also averaged 24.3 yards per kickoff return.

Cadet is prized for his versatility, utilized as a running back, wide receiver, kickoff returner, punt returner and quarterback during his time with the Mountaineers.

Cadet began his collegiate career at the University of Toledo before transferring to Pearl River Community College in Mississippi prior to being signed by Appalachian State.

Cadet was a dual-threat quarterback at Miami Central High School who passed for 1,391 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 450 yards and two scores as a senior.

He was named first-team All-Dade County.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Thomas, who started 11 games last season, was ruled ineligible by the school on Tuesday. Draft Scout Laron Scott News
11/22/11 - NOV 21 SPORTS NETWORK NATIONAL FCS SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Laron Scott, Georgia Southern, Senior, 5-9, 179, KR, Warner Robbins, GA, returned six kicks for 183 yards and a 95-yard touchdown in the Eagles' loss to FBS and Southeastern Conference opponent Alabama, 45-21. Scott scored in the third quarter, giving the Eagles the highest point total any team has scored against Alabama this season. Also a defensive back, Scott added five tackles and one-and-a-half tackles for a loss. - The Sports Network

10/17/11 - Well into conference play, CAA Football teams keep knocking each other off in a battle royale worthy of a steel cage, or at least synthetic turf. There's a benefit to the parity in this year's conference race: the depth of quality teams in the CAA is noticed nationwide. On Monday, the CAA surpassed its record by placing nine teams in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25. In the prior two weeks, it had eight ranked teams for the first time in the poll for sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries. The top two teams were unchanged as Southern Conference leader Georgia Southern held the No. 1 ranking for the sixth straight week, followed by No. 2 Northern Iowa. North Dakota State moved up one spot to No. 3, with Montana State dropping to No. 4 and Wofford remained at No. 5. Massachusetts (4-2) is leaving the CAA after this season to join the Mid- American Conference on the FBS level, but the Minutemen are not going quietly. They won at Delaware, 21-10, this past Saturday to move back into the poll after a two-week absence - at No. 22 - and give the 11-school conference its ninth representative. - The Sports Network

10/03/11 - CAA Football teams lose more games in a weekend of conference action than they do in a season's worth of non- conference games against Football Championship Subdivision opponents. That the CAA has been the nation's top conference in recent years was on display again Monday when for the first time in nearly 16 years it placed eight of its 11 schools in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25. The top two spots in the poll were Georgia Southern and Northern Iowa for the fourth straight week. No. 1 Georgia Southern, from the Southern Conference, gained 128 of the 157 first-place votes and 3,878 points, and No. 2 Northern Iowa, from the Missouri Valley Football Conference, collected 19 first-place votes and 3,722 points. The CAA has had a team reach the FCS national final in seven of the past eight seasons, with four winning championships during that span. - The Sports Network

09/12/11 - All the hoopla surrounding Georgia Southern football's return to a lofty status in the Football Championship Subdivision has a new declaration. The Eagles are No. 1! Georgia Southern, off to a 2-0 start, was a runaway top choice in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25 on Monday, claiming 102 of the 148 first-place votes and 3,622 points, for its first No. 1 ranking since the poll on Oct. 22, 2001. Last season also marked Georgia Southern's return to prominence in the FCS. The Eagles had a combined 21-23 record in the four seasons from 2006-09, but Jeff Monken, an assistant coach with two of the program's FCS-record six national championship squads between 1985-2000, returned to Statesboro as head coach last year. He restored the vaunted triple option which helped rack up all the national titles and the Eagles reversed a 5-6 season in 2009 with a 10-5 campaign in which they won three playoff games and reached the national semifinals. This season, Georgia Southern has defeated Southern Conference rival Samford and Division II Tusculum, rushing for 307 yards per game to rank fourth nationally. The Eagles are on a bye this week. - The Sports Network
