VILMA suspended for season....

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I believe this is going to hurt us a lot more than some of you guys think (Most importantly Vilma). He was the "quarterback" of our defense, and even though his physical play has declined a bit, his football intelligence ...

The bright spot is that the organization planned for this situation and made some great moves in the off season that will help us deal with it.

Yea I agree. Also I was really looking forward to seeing some of the LB configurations we would have used with our new guys and Vilma.

This is what scares me most. He does for our D what Ryan Clark does for the Steelers, D. Look what happened to them in the playoffs without him on the field to assign coverages based on pre-snap looks. It's his leadership that will be truly missed.

I am hoping Lofton can pock up some of the slack there but I don't know much about him as a leader like that.

And at the risk of incurring an " internet slap" I would love to see Shanle step into that leadership role. I can't help to root for the underdog and if Shanle's not an underdog around here, I don't know who is!!

Look, we have a fighting chance to do something.... ANYTHING! What scared me most was mentioning 20 to 27 players for suspension. The NFL COULD have irrevocably crippled our team for the 2012 season with mass suspensions at this late date.

In my opinion, the Sean Payton loss is far more extreme.

If the NFL would have crippled the Saints with suspensions, you could watch those TV $number$ drop for planned games (ie MNF, SNF, ESPN etc.) because the Saints would be playing with SCABS on defense.

There is WAY too much money at stake for the NFL to cripple the Saints, or any team for that matter, for an entire season.

no, they could probably cripple the Jags, Chargers, or Rams for a season and no one would notice

Cut Vilma and sign him as a advisor for the lb corps. Resign next year if it deems ness which I doubt it will.

They'll gain more cap space by him being suspended (base salary won't count towards the cap) than they would if they were to cut him.
