I love Drew as much as anybody, but I hope we didn't just shackle our financial flexibility to a QB who will be 39 in the final year of his contract. |

$40M in salary and signing bonus. Signing bonus is amortized through the length of the contract, so even if Drew gets all the cash today, the Saints write the bonus money off the salary cap in yearly installments.

IMO, this means that the draft will become ever more important to this franchise over the next half decade. We will need low-cost producers at other positions. |

Robert Kraft) that seem to indicate that the cap had already been adjusted in accordance to the looming TV deals in the new CBA, and so the cap won't experience a sudden hike after 2014 as was widely speculated. But, I guess the Saints' FO would know more about it than me... Still, Brees is probably worth it, and they can always try to restructure towards the end of the contract if both sides are willing. I'm so happy that this is finally done and that Brees stays a Saint, nevertheless, this ordeal has changed the way I view him - for the worse -although, on the other hand, I totally understand where he was coming from in the negotiations. Then again, he has never been my favorite Saints' player, and probably never will be, mainly because he doesn't play on the defense. ![]() ![]() |
