Guess who's hands it will fall into for that decision... Yup, Goodell. The reason this issue has not been silenced and will not be silenced for a week is because Loomis cant do anything yet. |

Contact is allowed with league approval. Goodell would be in a really bad light... worse than he is now, if he was an obstructionist on getting this extension done.

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
Which leads me to the ultimate question - Why would Sean Payton actually want to coach at the Dallas Cowboys?
I think this should be a thread of its own. Seriously, the Dallas job is one of the most infamous for short lived coaches in the NFL. The biggest "named" coach in recent history was Tuna and the situation was impossible for him to turn around. With an overbearing owner who IS GM, how is the Dallas job more attractive than New Orleans? Benson pays Sean Payton $7million a year, more than Jerry Jones has ever paid a coach. Also, if you think you'll stop Jones from meddling, you're wrong (Jerry Jones locked out of locker-room last night after Cowboys loss) |

@LarryHolder
Not sure if this has been reported yet, but #Saints and Sean Payton can negotiate his contract extension right now, via source. |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
At this point all we can do is wait and hope Sean Payton comes back to New Orleans.
I realize he can fly back and forth yeah yeah yeah... but this guy isn't exactly working 8-4. I'm sure he's in the office till late sometimes so that throws the flying back and forth out IMO. As much as I want him back IF and IF he chooces the job bcause of family issues I can't blame him for that. |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
Please keep in mind his present contract is not over because he was suspended for a season... Suspended players contracts get "tolled" to cover for the suspended period.
"Payton and the Saints agreed to the extension in September of 2011, but the league voided the deal due to a clause that would have enabled Payton to walk away from the agreement if GM Mickey Loomis were suspended, fired or left the organization. There was some speculation that the 2012 season in Payton's deal could "toll," which means it wouldn't count against the deal and Payton could be under contract for 2013. ESPN's Adam Schefter stated adamantly, though, that won't be the case. "Short of a contract extension," Schefter reported on Sunday Countdown, "Payton will become a coaching free agent in 2013, no matter what other people are saying.""
