Re: Licking our Wounds ...
The Saints refuse to run the ball two times in a row. They never run the ball except on first down or the occasional third and one right up the middle. Ivory should be in the game until he raises his hand or is carted off. Thomas is one of the best screen RB's in the NFL and runs as hard as anyone. Ingram is improving but he, like Ivory, needs to be on the field for more than one play at a time. Sproles needs to be limited to kickoffs, punts and spot duty. Having him in the game when the situation called for him to block behind the 4th string RT was ridiculous. I love the guy, but his size is a drawback compared to the other four RB's (including Cadet) on the roster. The other four guys can block much better, are bigger threats in the run game, and can catch at a comparable level.
Brees made a horrible throw to Graham and it changed the game yesterday. It was atleast a 7 point swing, probably 10, and gave the 49ers momentum and hope. The second int was a throw and catch Colston makes 7 out of 10 times. It happens. Everyone wants to bag on the o-line. They held up well against a superior pass rushing unit until the Saints had no choice but to pass on every play. The 49ers LB's are the best unit I've seen since the dome patrol. That being said, Grubbs and de Le Puente had probably their worst games. Robinson, for a street guy, did a darn good job. The defense played it's best game yesterday. Lofton, Hawthorne, and Vilma is a good LB crew. Hicks is a beast. Jordan gives 110% every play. I personally would start Jenkins at CB and move Greer to the nickle. I don't know if it's due to injury, father time, or he's just got the most out of his small frame, but Greer is just not the same player he was. Abdul-Quddus seems to have better instincts for the ball at safety than Jenkins and likes hitting people. The ref's called a game like I'm used to seeing as a Saints fan. |
