Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

From Walter Football...

13. New Orleans Saints: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Sedrick Ellis has been a bust. He'll be hitting free agency this March, so it's unlikely he'll be back with the team. Canadian Akiem Hicks has played well, but the Saints need someone next to him who can rush the passer on the interior. Sheldon Richardson, who has been phenomenal this season, could be that guy.

73. New Orleans Saints: Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State

The Saints aren't getting much pressure on the quarterback. Cameron Jordan has improved in this department over the second half of the season, but Will Smith looks like a shell of his former self. He's due $10 million in 2013, so he obviously won't be back.

I like it when players have names like Tank, it just sounds like he is a bad ass. Hes a combination of a tank and David Carradine.....lol.....He can just kick his way through the offensive line, then roll through the quarterback like a tank.

I could go for a DT and a DE with the first two picks, but I think they might want to try and expand their number of picks through some trade downs if at all possible.

The draft is fluid, dynamic and just like games there will need to be adjustments - but I'm not sure we can afford to trade down as we're in real need of some impact players at DE, OT, OLB, S/DB (Depending on what happens with Jenkins)...

1st/3rd round pick needs to be used on D-Line and O-Line; I agree with JP, we need 2 impact starters from the beginning there. We don't have the luxury this year of stock-piling picks...

Yeah, but trading down from the 1st to early 2nd could still get them an impact player and maybe also get a 3rd rounder for it.

I'm just saying that they should really try and fill as many holes in the draft as they can, because the new CBA makes rookies very affordable and they need to make some savings in the 53 man roster.

They can always try and use some of those savings to sign a proven veteran impact player from the FA pool if they decide not to re-sign Graham during this offseason.

As good as the Saints are at finding players deeper in the draft this could be a good strategy. Trade all of the earlier picks for deeper ones plus additional picks and we could get twice as many.

#1 is a defensive lineman that can get consistent push, especially in Spags defense. The O is good with what we have. We may not break records and score 50 points per game, but 24-28 per game will be great with a running game and a stronger D. Where's Walter Thomas these days :P
