Poll on Haslett?
I just went back and read this thread and I know as soon as WhoDat reads it, he\'s gonna think I directed some of my comments at him.
No, I wasn\'t talking to you WhoDat. I\'ll live to battle with you another day.. P.S. -- My earlier comments weren\'t really directed at anyone. I\'d just rather not go back and rehash who was right and wrong about EVERYTHING that was said last year. At least not to the point where it\'s dominating this board. Hey, but it won\'t be long before Aaron takes the field against the Seahawks. Then we can break down his game under the microscope... :P [Edited on 27/8/2004 by GumboBC] |

Poll on Haslett?
Gator, in answer to your question. Out there in the real world, we all have jobs. How many bosses would give us 5 years to produce? I understand that guys get hurt and refs screw up, but this doesn\'t happen to just the Saints. Everyone is talking about the depth this team has this year, including Has, well if it\'s true, Great! We\'ll go deep in the playoffs. If it\'s not true, then he lied to us. Do you or anyone you know tolerate a liar?
There just comes a time when you fish or cut bait! That time has come. At least for me it has. |

Poll on Haslett?
This looks like a pretty good roll here.
http://www.pro-football-reference.co...eaders2003.htm And look at the NFL QB stats at the bottom of the page. Brooks is in the top 10 of every category that stats are kept for QBs and led the league with the least INTs (8). What more do you want from the guy? He gets out there. He plays. He puts up numbers. He\'s only one guy but as QBs go he\'s pretty damn good. He has the best 3 season stretch for any QB in Saints history. How about this: what could Weiss not do with Brooks that he\'s succeeded in doing with Brady? They have similar numbers. Last question. Who do you replace him with? Hmmm. Brooks certainly isn\'t perfect. But what has he done that deserves his exit from the team? And before getting started with Delhomme consider two things: 1) Delhomme isn\'t in ANY of these top passing categories. 2) Where would the Saints have ended up if they had the Panther\'s defense from last year? Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

Poll on Haslett?
Now for the BMG master plan for cleaning house and making the Saints into a perennial winner: (With deference to 08 if he wants to chime in here) First, clean house. ALL coaches and ALL front office personnel. Second, offer Pioli from New England anything he wants to get him to come and be GM. Third, hire Crennel or Weiss to come in as head coach. Fourth, face facts (I\'m saying this as an organization, not directed at any person on this board) 1. 2004 is most likely Joe Horn\'s last in black and gold. Horn is going to make 700k this season, but is due to make 3.8 million next year. Horn would have to really re-work his deal to stay. If Haslett stays, Horn will just get released. http://www.nflpa.org/Members/playerProfile.asp?ID=23954 2. In 2005 Deuce is scheduled to make 5.5 million next year. Now I know the organization wants Deuce for a long term deal, but even a new deal will make a cap hit. Since Deuce does nothing but work hard, play hard and produce, I\'m thinking a new coaching staff would like to have a predictable ground game. (I recognize this as a personal bias, but it makes sense to me.) I think Deuce is too good to lose, but he will be expensive. http://www.nflpa.org/Members/playerProfile.asp?ID=30052 3. In 2005, Howard will make no less than 6.5 million if we leave the franchise tag on him. If we can ink him to a new deal, we might get a lot of cap relief. With Smith here, he could be a cap casualty in the off-season. If we get the New England guys, they might want a 3-4, in which case, Howard might be an attractive signing. http://www.nflpa.org/Members/playerProfile.asp?ID=28784 4. In 2005, Brooks is set to make 5.5 million and go up to 6.25 and 7.25 million in the following 2 years. http://www.nflpa.org/Members/playerProfile.asp?ID=27122 Of these 4 guys, it Brooks and Horn and the 2 we should get rid of. I\'d like to try and deal Horn, but I\'m not sure anyone will trade for him since we\'ll have to cut him anyway. That leaves Brooks as being the only player in his physical prime who we can get value for in a trade. It seems like a no-brainer to me to try and deal Brooks with a new coaching staff/philosophy. My argument for ditching Brooks if we get a new coaching staff. 1. Haslett has coddled him for his entire career here. I can\'t see the no-nonsense New England guys tolerating this. 2. A Weiss or Crennel coached team will be a team. Brooks is a me-first kind of guy. He doesn\'t fit that philosophy. 3. Keeping Brooks will retard the development of a new team identity. 4. Brooks is in his physical prime and commands his maximum trade value while allowing us some welcome cap relief to invest in putting together a defense. 5. Brooks can\'t make the throws that a QB needs to make in a New England style team. But I\'ll be that Al Davis or Denny Green would love to have him and pay through the nose for him. 6. After dumping Brooks, I\'d like to see us manage a trade with Atlanta for Matt Schaub or see if Washington wouldn\'t hurt us too much to try and get Ramsey and then let the new scouting staff find a good value QB for the mid to late rounds of the draft and then figure out a starter from JT, Bouman, Schaub and draftee. 7. I\'m not suggesting we release Brooks, but trade him. He could be our Herschel Walker that we use to get our house in order for a new coach while keeping us out of cap trouble. |
