The Saints are discussing a new contract with OC Pete Carmichael.

Carmichael is technically a coaching free agent right now, but he says a new contract with the Saints is "going to happen." Carmichael interviewed for the Bears' head-coaching vacancy but later took his name out of the hat and turned down OC opportunities with the Eagles and Jaguars. "This is going to be a tough place to ever leave for me," Carmichael said.

As it stands, the New Orleans Saints must wait until after Super Bowl XLVII for head coach Sean Payton to return to the fold. When he does, Pete Carmichael will be by his side.

The Saints' offensive coordinator interviewed for the head-coaching job with the Chicago Bears, but Carmichael has no plans to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles or the Jacksonville Jaguars about their coordinator vacancies. Carmichael, whose contract is set to expire, says a new deal with the Saints is "going to happen," per The Times-Picayune.

"It's an easy decision for me, especially what's best for my family. ... I think it was a unique circumstance this year with just the whole contract thing. This is going to be a tough place to ever leave for me," Carmichael told the newspaper on Monday from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

The primary benefactor here is quarterback Drew Brees, who's been linked with Carmichael dating to their time with the San Diego Chargers.
