I hope this works out, but I'm not convinced that Ryan is the answer to fixing the Defense. I will be happy to be proven wrong though....

GW didn't 'fix' the defense either, but at least it got the Saints a Super Bowl ring.

Like the vast majority of us on the forum, I don't know if the claims by players that Spagnuolo's style was the reason the defense didn't respond/produce, but I wish he would have gotten another year with Payton back.

I am hopeful that the Saints signing Ryan will be enough to get some FAs to try out with the Saints. Maybe that alone will be enough to get the players we have to play better.

Really though, are we that many players away from a top 15 D? I believe 3-4 moves to the front seven could be enough. NT being the most glaring need.

On O, we need O line depth (potential starting LT) and healthy WR's.

I agree 100%, NT is now our most glaring need and our O has been on the back burner for a while now, I think Payton could find a WR in his sleep. I believe that Wilson and Gallett will be the best starting lbs. in the league if Ryan sticks them there, I would like to draft at least 1 inside lb. in the draft.

Spaggs had me scratching my head with not allowing Wilson to get more involved in his playbook. I really think Ryan will utilize this guy to his real potential. Everytime I think of Wilson, I recall him running down Ponder half way across the field and introducing Cam Newton to the turf.

I'm excited about this year !!!

Definitely so now. Ryan prefers the 2-gap 3-4 which requires the "fat-bastarrd" in the middle. Bunkley can play it but I don't think he can man the position all game long. He'll excell as part of a 2 or 3 man rotation at DT.

I don't think we have another run stuffin fat boy on the team. It would be a waste to play Hicks there when I think he could flat dominate at DE in a 3-4.

I think DT just moved up the priority list pretty significantly.

Wonder if Payton grilled Grantham about Jonathan Jenkins?

Well, Terrance Knighton is about the size of Jay Ratliff - a little shorter, but somewhat heavier - and best of all he could probably be had for the vet minimum or very close to it even though he is only 26.

Jay Ratliff, 6-4 & 303 lbs
Terrance Knighton, 6-3, 330 lbs

Oh, and even though Ryan wasn't my favorite for the job, I'm glad they hired someone finally, and he'll have something to prove after how things went down in Dallas.
