Yeah, Payton sat on the couch saying, "Sure, we don't have the right coaches or the right personnel, and it will take 3 years to transition to the new scheme, but dammit, that coach figured out how to irritate Drew so he's all-right by me."

He didn't hire Spagnoulo with the thought of firing him after one year, He sat on the couch all year seeing the same thing we did, uninspired, defense lacking confidence = Ryan hiring |

Spags just didn't spend a season with a team having a normal season with a present and accounted for Head Coach, General Manager. I'm no Spags fan, I don't think our players were smart enough to pull his scheme off anyway. Just saying he wasn't fired because it didn't work, he was fired because when the worst defense in history finishes a season, regardless of circumstances, someone's head has to roll. |

Did we run a 3-4 in 2009? This is not a revert, this is a major overhaul. Spags was also fired because he doesn't run a 3-4. |

Place Troy Polamalu in a Tampa-2 and he's freaking abused all game long. Let him play his traditional SS role near the LOS and he's a hall of famer, likely 1st ballot. Nnamdi Asomugha's was one of the best man-to-man CB's in the entire league, but when placed in the Eagles mostly zone schemes he flat out sucked. They're ready to run him out of Philly as much as we wanted Jason David gone. |

So why did Sean even hire a 4-3 guy? |

LOL I don't know, you tell me. I don't recall an announcement of a switch to the 4-3 in 2012.
Now, players claiming experience in a 3-4 doesn't surprise me. When you just participated in the worst defense In history and your not considered better than an average player you say anything you can to keep a job when your employer says we are changing things up...... I would claim familiarity too |

Re: I thought more about the Ryan hire
Pretty much agree. Aggressive defense and forcing turnovers can make inferior personnel look better. We don't have a suffocating group who can play solid D in all facets so let's throw caution to the wind and try to pressure QB's into throwing early before getting through progressions, making our CB's have to cover less time and hoping it eliminates those big plays that need time to develop.
