Right, when he came to the Saints he played LDE because Smith was already at the RDE...

Damn jeanpierre, now you've got the entire Will LB crew on shaky ground. Should we go to to a 3-3-3 (3 DL, 3 LB, 3S) defense?

Seer, I just don't see all three making the team, so, yes, I believe they're all on the bubble...maybe two, but not all three...

Yeah I was thinking Herring myself although you make a pretty convincing argument with Vilma and the $$$ thing. Are there any of our OLBs that are able to adapt to the inside?

Several have suggested that Martez would make a great SAM linebacker...

You could count me in that number [sic]; he may need some fine tuning, but I like Chase Thomas as a long term solution to one of the OLB spots, freeing up Martez to the inside...

Curious to see if Rufus can play an OLB spot at his size; I think he's more of a 43 DE, but we'll see...

And we also signed two polished ILB via UDFA in Kevin Reddick (Solid Pedigree) and Eric Martin (Great Motor)...

There's also Chamberlain, coming off a lost season to injury, but was a Spagnuolo signing and may move on to a 43 defense team...
Rugby Saint II and K Major like this.

I'm one of the people who think Martez would do well on the inside. I am also high on Reddick and Martin who do look polished. Great job breaking it down.

Re: Saints Depth Chart 2013

Why do I get the feeling that we're going to bounce Martez around at different positions every year and we'll never see his true potential? That's why I'm really hoping he excels this year as the Sam and we have a badass to be proud of for years to come!

Chris, going to the 34 is a step in the right direction for the team and for Martez...

True my friend. Wilson, Galette, Jordan, Bunkley, and Hicks are all much better fits in a 3-4.

The only players not better (on paper) are Smith, Vilma and Lofton. And it remains to be seen if they actually play worse in our version of the 3-4. Who knows... they may even play better.
