Great. When does he start for your team? The Saints need a real place kicker. :)

a 66% kicker would rate dead last in the NFL.

That would have been a crucial 3 points, early today. This man basically cannot be counted upon.

It's sad.

The Mexican dude we had in camp has to better than Suckalicious.

The problem behind this, is that we had to cut someone and activate Ryan Griffin from the practice squad to keep the Rams from getting him. Which takes up a roster spot, that we would normally be able to use on carrying a third temporary kicker, which is exactly what they've done in the past, when Harley has his emo hissy fits or hits slumps, they carry three ridiculous kickers on the roster with Hartley inactive for a spell. If they cut Hartley right now, he's gone to another team instantly, and won't come back, which would really suck if the new guy doesn't work out either. We could theoretically end up paying Hartley to kick against us, for another team, if we cut him and still owe him his salary. If we had that free roster spot and Griffin on the PS, I have no doubt we would be carrying a second place kicker from somewhere for a game or two or three. It's messed up all around.

If hartley is released, no doubt he will go on to be the NFL scoring leader in FG's

thats just what happens to people that leave our team

It's not just the 3pts NOT on the scoreboard, it's the deflation to the team's momentum in a game...

He's just not focused...

Exactly. Also, at the end of the game if we're down by 3 instead of 6, the whole approach to the 2-minute drill changes. Yeah, you still need a TD to win but have the option of a FG to send it to OT.

He didn't cost us the game on his own but he definitely contributed.

Same o-line and lack of running game has been worth 6 wins so far.

A kicker missing a FG on the opening drive has no effect on morale?

Part of Hartleys issue is that he kicks better with pressure, the situational stats prove that. Problem is that when he misses one on an opening drive and we find our self down by 9 in the bottom of the 4th we have to score on two possessions rather than a TD on one. IF we were down by 6 in the bottom of the 4th it would have been different play calling and we would have gone for it on 4th.

Yes he did. Did you notice that the ST coach had the punting team ready to go punt, then Payton had Hartley go out and kick the 55 yarder? This is just my opinion, and I don't have any proof of this, but I think that 55 yarder was Hartley's career. I think Coach sent him out to sink or swim. He misses it, we never see Hartley again. He makes it, he plays again next week. Lucky for him, he made it. And he made the 43 yarder, both of them right down the middle. We'll see Hartley again next week, thanks to that 55 yarder.

I am sure this will enrage and infuriate many people here, but I think it showed confidence, that Payton believed in Hartley enough to yank the punt team and put him out there to try a career long. After he missed the early one, Hartley was right over there on the sideline, talking quietly to Payton about it....Payton didn't "ice face" him or go into IGNORE MODE, like he does when other minor players make mistakes or wear the wrong cleats....Payton talked it out with him....unfortunately for those who dislike Emo Kid Hartley, that type of body language and attention from a coach is NOT how you treat a kicker that you're going to cut on Monday.

That doesn't infuriate me. I personally gave up on the dude in 2011 after a shankfest, and I've said my peace about that. That said, not going to harp on him, and as a Saints fan, I hope the dude makes every kick he attempts and pray he jumps from a mid 60% kicker to 85% plus!

Like Ingram, I wish the kid just rack up the points and scapegoating him doesn't do jack if the team still employs him. If SP's gesture gives him confidence, AWESOME! Just MAKE THE KICKS!

We had problems yesterday and if Hartley made the early FG, the game approach and momentum would have been different. BUT from what I saw, we had chances to win that game besides Hartley's miss. The reasons we failed to capitalize on those chances concerns me more than a missed FG at this point.

Couldnt agree more. Still dont like the dude but you cannot blame the entire outcome of the game on him when everyone was playing just as bad as he was.

8th in FG made this year. As for the rest he is middle of the pack.

Wait. We were up in the JETS game by what, 14-3.

Is that right? I think it was 14-3.

We lose the game 26-20 and we want to blame the idiot kicker?

Well, idiot is right, but that adjective is in front of the wrong noun...

I understand your statement but that 3 points kept us 2 scores down for most of the game. Big difference in play calling in my opinion. But I'm just here for my opinions.

He's 27th in accuracy.

Between 30-49 yards, he's 10-15. Thats terrible, and dead last in the NFL by a long shot.

You do realize that not all kickers attempt the same number of kicks? Which makes FG made moot in regards to accuracy.

In overall Percentage (accuracy) he is 27th. <-- What counts and no where near the middle.

And "if" we could have even half-stopped the run it would be a non-issue. I'm not arguing to argue, but we blew a two-score lead. Hartley makes folks nervous. I get it, but I see no reason in the world to mention his name in relation to the debacle that was the JETS game.
