We're not a Super Bowl team

No running game, no run defense and for some reason on a 3rd and inches we call an end-around with our 3rd string TE. I'm sorry all you holier than thou veterans that post here but Payton shouldn't be calling the plays. He's done an awful job this year. We were setting records with Carmichael calling the plays... Now we're losing to a Jets team that has 2 of the worst starting CB's in the league. It wasn't just an off game, it was a very real wake up call that we're not quite there as an elite team.

Payton shouldn't be calling the offensive plays??????

Today was one of the worst offensive performances I have seen from the Saints in years but are you on something mate? At the end of the day it is one loss. You are calling out arguably the best offensive play caller in a decade? Wow.

blackangold 11-03-2013 03:25 PM

Re: We're not a Super Bowl team

If we play like we did today then no we are not a Championship team, however there are a lot of games left to play and 6-2 isn't a bad record. We have some tough games coming up and the Panthers are playing well. There are more concerns about this team right now than any other point in the season. The loss to the PATs was because of one play but in this game we did nothing well and got our hat handed to us.

Hopefully some adjustments are made. In 09 we lost 3 in a row and everyone was saying the same thing about this team.

I am not happy losing this one, no one is but 6-2 isn't bad. Carmichael needs to take over play calling and our O-line coach needs to be fired.

Don't forget that there are 16 games.

2011 Carmichael called the plays after the TB game. (record setting year)
2012 Carmichael called the plays and had the 1st rank offense.

Payton is good but Carmichael has done a better job at calling plays and from what I have seen this year Payton is rusty as hell.

If our offense carries on like this, the last 8 will be painful for us

No Running Game = No Superbowl

I'm not going to start going mad because we lost. The right team won the contest today. We were not good on rush defence at all and that needs some serious attention but offensively, I don't think I have ever seen us struggle so badly. And it stems from the running game.

It's predictable. It's pathetic. I would rather see us go to 4th down and have to punt if we were putting more rushing plays into the mix. It's going to start costing us. In fact it has cost us. It cost us today. We were so predictable that the Jets secondary that has been terrible just owned our receiving corps. And before everyone jumps up and down about key personnel missing, that is not an excuse.

Now I know the O-Line has been terrible. This has not helped the run game at all. STILL I would rather see a much better balance of running plays versus passing plays to keep the opposition defence honest and open up some genuine mis-matches and single coverage.

If we do not get a running game going or at least double and I do mean DOUBLE the amount of rushing attempts per game soon, we may as well accept that we are going to have a 'fun' season but with no end product.

One final observation. At halftime, the lady on the sideline (don't know her name) said Sean Payton had confirmed Sproles was not returning because of a head injury. Cadet would come into the game but this would obviously change the play-calling and Cadet may not see as much of a workload......

What? A rushing workload? What the same amount of carries that Sproles gets?

So unhappy right now.

He isn't the best play caller this season. Force the ball to Jimmy Graham, force the ball to Darren Sproles and if those options aren't available we'll call stupid-ass plays like letting a backup TE run the ball. Sean Payton hasn't been the best play caller since the 09 season. Carmichael took over in 2010 and did a phenomenal job. Payton took the reins this season and his play calling has been awful.

Is that on Payton or Brees forcing? You know there is more than one receiver on every play...

I wanted SP to call plays this season, but man you are so right

SP's playcalling is getting embarrassing, like 2007 reggie bush reverse with a minute left to go and fumbling kinda embarrassing

Even though the pass to jimmy on his second td was awesome, brees stared him down the whole way, if cromartie looked at brees for a second that would be a 99 yard pick 6

The O-line sucks. Drew has next to no time to make reads and we have several of our clutch players out with injury. Don't blame everything on Sean or Drew.

Ok, ok. I have my calm down moment. I totally agree with the Graham and Sproles thing. It's boring and predictable, especially in the absence of a run game.

I knew Carmichael was involved in the play-calling in the 2011 season after TB and obviously in 2012 but outside of bounty-gate year I didn't realise he ever had full control of play-calling. If that IS the case, and I am happy to take heed to your knowledge, then maybe this is something we need to consider? I just always thought everything was coming through Payton....

Re: We're not a Super Bowl team

Other than the TB game, which was screwed up with the weather delay, we have looked good all season. Even when we lost to the Pats, we played a good game. I have no doubt that we will come back strong next week in the dome and destroy Jerry's kids. To say we are not a SB team is just whining. Most SB teams don't get there by steamrolling every team they face. Don't let the band wagon run over you when you jump off.

Re: We're not a Super Bowl team

I'd like to see more of a commitment to trying to run. I understand the line isn't all-pro, but commit. And leave a RB in to help protect Brees. All the empty sets leave 0 threat to run, and you are making yourself one dimensional. Brees will be dead by week 10 if we don't do a better job. Still not a lost season though, just a rough patch. It'll do good to face adversity in the long run

Everyone is emotional after an emotional loss. You're venting, he's venting...

Isn't it a good thing that everyone gives a ****? That's because we all care about the team! There's no sky is falling stuff going on from anyone as far as I see it, just some fan passion because everyone knows we CAN be better.

Saying what you think doesn't mean you suddenly hate the team. It doesn't mean you think we are on an 8 game losing slide to the end of the season. It also doesn't mean you were on a bandwagon and you want to get off.

Opinion is cool. Puerile one-line commentary is a bit tragic.

Based on the performance in this one game alone, and the fact that the buccaneers at this instant are leading the seahawks, i have determined that the buccs are going to be this years superbowl champs after they defeat the dallas cowboys in some weird nfc crossover scenario

Time to re-adjust our expectations. The Panthers are on our heels and we lost again to a rookie. Without some serious adjustments, I'm concerned we may not make the playoffs.

I wasn't able to watch the game here in Milwaukee. Looking for some real, quantifiable data here.

How many drops did we have? What happened with Drew's two INTs?

First one drew threw behind ben watson, was tipped and picked

Second, Drew threw to wide open Nick Toon who just tipped it in the air and Cromartie caught it before he went out of bounds

Believe me, it could have been atleast 5 picks today, it was ugly, the jets dropped 3 easy ones

We also got some calls that absolutely fell into our lap and still lost. in summary; offense looked lost, defense could not stop Ivory.

The Bucs are gonna choke away this because the Sea-turds are Satan's team. No team in the history of the NFL get the breaks like that team from Seattle does (bogus Hail Marys, shady penalties, getting off Scott Free with all the PEDs, weak freakin' schedule, etc.). Karma will never catch them due to Carroll's dealings with the devil, and the more I think about how freakin' lucky that team from Seattle is the more sick I feel. And don't get me started on Golden Tate, the biggest douche turd of them all.
