Re: Problems we cannot fix in time
I think this offensive line would look entirely different if we tried to run the ball, not just run run pass, but mix it up. We don't even give it a chance. It's not that we can't run the ball because that's impossible to know since we start out the 1st quarter just throwing the ball like we're an Arena football team.
We're a one trick pony - throw throw throw and get to Brees and cover the receivers/tight end and you're good to go. |

Re: Problems we cannot fix in time
If the window is indeed closing, to just a crack, then we need to fire Payton and move on. Payton is ultimately responsible for the decline in the O-line. So is Loomis. Period. End of story. We have squandered years of Drew, and need to look to the future in a different direction. Loomis should not have given Brees all that money knowing it would hobble us. Payton should not have let the o-line get as weak as it has. Payton is the one who let it get this bad. There's no point in even trying to salvage these last few years of Drew, with the shabby line, we need to cut bait and move on. If it's going to take us years to fix and get the line together, might as well blow the whole thing up. Drew is not going to be with us forever.

While I believe the o-line is average at best, when any defense, especially one as athletic as the Jets, can pin their ears back and attack what has to be the most predictable/unbalanced offense in the NFL in the Saints, they are actually doing a great job in protecting Brees.

This season reminds me a lot of 2011 so far. The plan the 9ers used against us in the playoffs that year still works just fine. |

We gave it to the Jets with numerous unforced errors. I just don't see any way possible our offense plays that badly for the rest of the season. I see 5-3 over the next 8 games at worst. Yeah, if we play as bad as we did today we won't win 3 games, but that's not gonna happen, especially with 4 home games left. |

Are the Saints still zone blocking on the OLine because if they are it is not working. They should go back to gap blocking. Last season we had the same center and guards and they did fine. I think gap blocking would benefit Charles Brown also.

DAMN EXCELLENT POINT. We went zone thinking it would help our run game. We might need to revisit that decision.

Re: Problems we cannot fix in time
I usually only just read the post, but I had to set a profile and log into this forum to say this. Yes it is problems on the oline but to say this can't be fix in one season is a fan OVERREACTING like usual. How about Bree/Paytons first year here? Wasn't that line an overhaul? We made moves that were in question across the board and it worked. It wasn't a project it was what they saw and they moved on it. This line showed some regression from last year but still was pretty good running and passing back than. One thing for sure not this bad. What is the things that we don't have? Bushrod and our Oline coach and the bottom has fallen out. Now i'm not saying it is either or for the drastic drop, but I use them as an example to show that changes can be made in one off season that can have a ripple effect. We made changes that impacted the continuity overnight and it worked FEW times. The defense is going to have to help the offense cause when we don't get up and going fast we struggle at times.
