Agree, O-line is not even average, it's below average for sure. My concern is take one of these games Drew is going to get injured and then we are done.
It may be just a matter of time.

no i disagree the OL has degraded in the past few years to an average OL.

defensive game planning is simple.

stunt the center and you collapse the pocket. if the DT are big enough (IE carolina) he can be bull rushed. he wont give up many sacks but you will flush Drew out of the pocket and not let him step up. get your hands up to deflect some passes because you will be in his face.

LOT can be handled most of the time so the TE and RB will be chip blocking to help out. keep your head up because he will be flushed to you. LB 70% of the time the safety valve is coming out of the left side of the formation. easy pick up.

both guards are over whelmed trying to cover up this weakness so they too can be had during the game.

end of story.

Who says you can't fix an O-line in one season? Was anyone around in '06?

And one of the answers may be developing enough to start contributing down the stretch.

Armstead certainly has all the measurables, he was just raw.

This is going to be hard because while our D is improved, it is still not what you would call a good D, average at best but opportunistic. We are gonna need some help there as well. We simply dont have the money and time. By the time we get our Oline straightened out Drew will be done. Hell working behind this years line has probably shaved a year off his career already.
He needs to come off of some of that money and buy himself some protection or he wont be around long enough to collect all that contract money.
Our best shot for a second SB was 11 and we blew it. Window still has a crack, but not much.

The Patriots keep on trucking so it can be done.

Re: Problems we cannot fix in time

Im not basing my OPINION off of just this Jets game. Its not a knee jerk reaction. If we had been playing strong football and beating these inferior teams handily and the Jets manhandled us like they did yesterday I would not be concerned in the least and write this one off as a screw up. That is not the case. I am basing my opinions on what I have seen this season so far. Our line is getting WORSE when we need them to play better. Our run game is absolutely non existent, which is a direct result of line play. Brees is running for his life and if he remains healthy through the rest of the season, when we play even tougher defenses it will be a miracle. Our run defense is pretty damn horrible and we cannot for the life of us score in the red zone.
We have barely won games against crappy teams. Not one team we have beaten is above .500. We have beaten ****ty teams in nail biters.
We should have beaten every team we have played so far this season handily. And that was the easy part of our season. The Cards game and Bears game were encouraging but that is it. And you all would be lying if you say you werent holding your breath at the end of the Bears game.
I just don't see a Super Bowl contender in this team. I said 9-7 maybe 10-6 in preseason and I am sticking to it.

We got absolutely owned by a D that gave up 40 points to the friggin Bengals.

I think this game will help us in the long run. Reality smacked us in the face and made us see what we need to work on.
What I took away is with Sproles out, Colston out, Graham not 100% alot of who we are and what we do was changed.
The blocking up front need to get better, I say it starts with protecting Drew. SP will lok at the film and find away to get chip blocks in and help people with thier assignments. Just hard to do it yesterday when most of our good targets are hurt.

Anyway this will help us more than hurt us in the long run.
Just my 2 cents

I would give Lelito a run at C for a game or two...

Not a bad idea at all. If we throw enough **** against the wall something is bound to stick.
Armstead would be interesting to see as well.

I approve this because I saw a few times that DLP got his butt handed to him on a silver platter.
