Saints vs Seattle Breakdown

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; This is exactly what I was saying. It was a meltdown at every level. Obviously, our players are good to great. I do not see how this is not on preparation and game planning. The only other answer is that ...

The only other answer is that Seattle is unbeatable in Seattle. I do not buy that -- but they do have a very good team this year.

I'm not questioning your work ethic or your effort for putting this all together, Oak, it's good stuff, but I feel like Drew was hurried last night, way more than just 9 times. That just can't be right. It looked like he was hurried or had linemen in his face or backside on virtually 2 out of every 3 snaps.

Bree's was hurried because no one could get open with the coverage they were using on us.

I liked the way White played, he held his own. V played good and the D-line was good. The rest of the D well not so good and I really don't want to think about our high-powered O. But it was a lesson learned.

I went back and watch this game this morning, you can maybe initially attribute some of the Offensive mess last night to coming out flat. But if watch the game back Seattle's triangle defense and the speed at which their defense plays was just to much for the Saints last night. They had LB's covering Graham and back out of the back field most of the night and being position to knock the ball away or tackle for little or no gain. Almost every pass was contested / defended by 1 or more defenders and when we did get someone open Brees's did not have the time to pick his target and throw with accuracy when are accustom to seeing or the receiver just flat dropped it. Meachum really did not have much of any opportunity to catch the balls thrown his way Sherman was on him like rug and looked like he had 4 arms and hands. Sorry to say it but we were outplayed and out coached last night. It happens ... Now lets get down to it as we only have 5 days left and get ready for Panther's and put some Kryptonite on Newtons Butt. I be in the Dome early loud and proud.

Re: Saints vs Seattle Breakdown

Hey Saints fan, Hawks fan here.

I wanted to come on here and say good game, but then I realized I probably would sound like a troll if I said that. Instead, I have to ask wtf happened to Brees last night? The Saints did not look like they were prepared at all for this game. There was several issues with the crowd noise that I know Brees was downplaying in his post game interview. There was 2 delay penality (only 1 called) and 2 forced time outs in the second half and that was mainly attributed to crowd noise. I could have sworn at the beginning of the telecast they said the Saints even had custom made ear plugs fitted and everything.

The way I see it, the Saints just played against a superior team in the Seahawks last night. I know reading from the pregame chatter on here, many of you will disagree with, but you just need to relook at last nights tape and hopefully even the most homerish fans would come to that conclusion. Given the way both teams played, I doubt playing in your dome would have changed the outcome other than the score a little. The Saints had no answer to our press, man 2 man coverage we ran all night (I don't know what Gruden was talking about when he kept mentioning zone, the Hawks play 1 deep and man coverage all the way around). I thought Graham would be making more noise once he found out he was going to be covered by a LB for most of the game.

Your WR really need to be better at beating press coverage. I am not sure how they have been all year long, but last night there was no seporation from them once our DB's got their hand on them. To me, that was the biggest problem you faced. I knew you guys would have a hard time running on our D. I know there was an article out there that painted such a pretty picture that our D can be ran upon, but that article was the poster child for twisting stats to fit an argument. In reality, our run D is just as strong if not stronger than our pass D. We have the big bodies that know how to play to be effective on run D.

If a rematch does happen, and I really do hope there is one, Payton needs to run more bunch and screen routes to get a guy free to make some plays. I can only remember once when you guys got into bunch formation, and that has been the worst formation for our type of defense.

I was at the game and also just finished watching the game on my DVR and I agree with your assessment.

Seattle stopped both the Saints run and short passing games... and Seattle connected on the long passing plays that the Saints didn't.

Here is the difference on most of them. It was pressure but pressure on a different side of the line of scrimmage.

I saw no less than 4 First Downs missed because Graham, Colston, Meachem actually caught passes and let Seattle's dback knocked it out or knuckled up and couldn't catch a ball to the hands.

Wilson had two 40+ yard and at least 1 TD passes uncontested at the point of reception.
