Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
OK - here's an exhaustive look at where we will land in the playoffs. More than you every wanted to know...
#1 seed Two opportunities still for #1 seed, but both would require Seattle collapse. a) Saints win out to finish 13-3, Seattle loses 2 of 3 (@NYG, ARZ, STL) to finish 12-4 b) Saints win any two of three remaining games and finish 12-4. Seattle loses out to finish 11-5 #2 seed a) Saints win out. This happens and #2 is as low as we go. b) Saints win any two of the three remaining games. This happens and #2 is as low as we go. c) Saints beat only the Panthers. Eagles lose any 1 game (@MIN, CHI, @DAL) d) Saints beat only Bucs OR Rams. Panthers lose 1 game (NYJ or @ATL). Eagles lose any 1 game (@MIN, CHI, @DAL) f) Saints finishes 0-3. Seattle finishes 0-3. Dallas wins out to win East at 10-6. Eagles lose to Cowboys and either Bears or Vikings to finish 1-2. Panthers lose to NYJ and @ATL to finish 1-2. #3 seed Only way this happens is if the Saints finish 1-2 with the only win against Carolina and the Eagles win out and finish 11-5, beating Saints on NFC record tiebreaker (10-2 vs 9-3). Eagles would then be #2 seed. #4 seed Supposedly there is a less than 1% chance that Saints could be #4 seed, but I can't find it. Must use common opponents or strength of schedule tiebreakers that CURRENTLY favor the Saints, but could change... #5 seed Only way this happens is if the Saints finish 0-3, the Bears beat the Eagles in week 16, and the 49ers lose two of their last three games (@TB, ATL, @Arz) #6 seed Only way for the Saints to be the #6 seed is for the Saints to finish 0-3 and for the Bears to beat the Eagles in Week 16. MISSING THE PLAYOFFS There is ONE scenario for the Saints to miss out completely on the playoffs and it involves: a) Saints lose out b) Panthers beat either Jets or Falcons, in addition to Saints c) Cowboys win out and wins NFC East d) Eagles beat the Bears and Vikings. We would lose out on #6 to them due to NFC record (9-3 vs 8-4). |
