Funny you say that though...

Second Round Picks during Coach Payton Era...

2006 SS Roman Harper
2007 (Traded to Detroit)
2008 CB Tracy Porter
2009 (Traded to NYG/Shockey)
2010 OT Charles Brown
2011 (Traded to Boston to select Mark Ingram, this R2 pick + 2012 1R pick
2012 (BountyGate Penalty)
2013 (BountyGate Penalty)

Wow, thanks for posting that. That's quite the history. Every second round pick has or is linked to a story or controversy.

2006 Roman Harper - On one hand a Pro Bowl strong safety, on the other, single handedly responsible for every reception made by opposing teams.
2008 Tracy Porter - Will be remembered forever for picking off, media anointed demigod, Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl thus sealing the win.
2009 Traded to get fan favorite Jeremy Shockey, who scored a touch down in that same Super Bowl
2010 After he rode the pine for two years behind Bushrod. Got his shot as a starter and failed in a big way. Was benched for third round pick.
2011 Traded for Mark Ingram who seems to polarize Saints fans as to his worth as a number 1 pick.
2012-13 Lost as a penalty because of the "Bounty" scandal, which was never proven, or even credible evidence shown

It looks like the number 2 pick has quite a colorful history with the Saints in recent years.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft

I liked Smith as a player, but when I looked closer at his role in that defense, who he played with and his size - I'm thinking he's a better 43 OLB and more a heavy safety like Harper - so I"d pass...

I'd like our front seven to be behemoths with maybe a 6-0 fireplug ILB (yes I'm thinking of Sam Mills) to sneak underneath as a run stuffer for teams with those types of backs (Jax MJD)...

I'm leaning toward a trade into the top 10 for Anthony Barr. He better not become a Falclown either!

I am kind of on the fence about this. A WR to help get pressure off Graham, a Ball Hawk FS or CB, and a RT are what I am mostly leaning towards. Saints seem to be in a pretty good position and hopefully we make some good pick ups.

If we trade into the Top 10, it would be because Matthews fell in an "affordable" trade (which I would not be a opposed) or to get (heavenly ahhh) Khalil Mack, LB, Univ at Buffalo...

Vic Beasley of Clemson returning to school next year. That's kind of a shock considering he would've been a first round pick.

Not really, he hasn't hit his ceiling and if he stays on progression, it'll be a weak crop of pass rushers next year and he could be a top five~three pick in that draft - provided of course he doesn't let his conditioning geaux, he doesn't get a streak of really good offensive tackles on the schedule, or worse, a major "I"...

Kenny Stills? He's on the roster; Lance in the slot?!? We've got a good krewe at WR though I agree we need to have that fifth receiver developing and Toon can't seem to get the consistency/catchy thing going...
