Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Tons of people seem to have us taking Scott Chrichton from Oregon State in the first round. Who the hell is this guy and why is he such a popular choice for us in the first round?? I never heard of him until recent mock drafts.

Chrichton, Michael Sam and Dee Ford have some obvious risk for a first, second rounder as they're great players in a one-trick pony role... Questions... Because of their size, they will be limited at point of attack, will they still have their speed advantage vs athleticism of NFL tackles? How many years, two-three, before they slow down and that's gone?!? I see a similar situation as Miami's No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan; slapped into a DE role, his speed advantage is not what it was in college and he's struggled... Look at our 2013 NFL draft and the example of the impact a first round pick can have... |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
i just do not get it. pass rushing has gotten so over hyped it over shadows total skill package.
DE has to set the edge. thats the first thing you learn at that postion. next can he bull rush and collapse the pocket. that what this team needs |

First, the league is passing at an all-time rate... Second, new pass coverage rules means you have to find other ways to stop the pass, so you stop the passer if you can't touch the receiver... The Saints found something though when they started running the ball, the other team can't pass and run if they don't have the ball as long... |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
JP solid aguement but as seattle has proved bull rushing on 1st and 2nd downs works. speed rush on 3rd or obvious passing down where the DE loops wide.
the bull rush maintains the edge and controls the pocket. that is what this defense is missing on running downs. plus we could not get pressure on a QB way to many times last year with a 4 man rush. JR put up some great number for the spot lights but too many times he was just riden out of a play due to his style of play. speed kills also. this teams need finishing touches to fill in the voids not add to an area of strength. plus i am sure JR would love to have a better rotation, he played way to many snaps last year. it actually hurt his productivity in my opinion. Not picking on JR here he is just an example. the same can be said with the entire DL as well. |
