This is true. And most GMs don't take risks; Bureacrats, Automotons who don't want to draw too much attention to themselves as someone may get on to them...

Personally, I like Walt Aikens better, and he could be had with a third rounder, definitely a fourth round pick...

Desir is projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder, I believe...

He's practically a Keenan Lewis clone and he's settled down with a wife and 2 daughters. Great character guy and a phenomenal athlete.

Maybe a clone size wise in a way, but their games are not the same at all. Both Good & physical but desir has way better ball skills. Desir's reaction/closing speed is pretty awesome & consistently locates the ball in air and makes the catch away from his body, something you rarely see lewis do. Pierre is a more of a true ball hawk. But that is one thing i did love about him...gotta love a family man, tend to carry themselves to a higher standard. You wont have the off field issues. He transfered from washburn to lindenwood to be closer to family so he could better care for his daughters & put NFL plans on the backburner. Washburn wouldnt release him from his scholarship and wasnt eligible to receive support from lindenwood. Pierre ended up having to work as a janitor & perform other jobs to build finances. Gotta pull for a family man with his story...great guy. He Didnt think he'd have a shot after transferring but still worked hard.

Funny thing is Pierre actually was recruited by Mizzou, Kansas, & Michigan State(him & dennard would have been something) but academically ineligible.

Desir would be a great selection, especially since there wouldnt be a dire need to start him right away & let champ/keenan coach him up, let him play as the nickel then overtake champ at some point in the next 2 years. He may not be there in round 2 when we pick again though.

NFL Draft Scout (which CBSSports.com uses) has him in the second round...

I keep seeing plenty of 'experts' saying/mocking we should get Verrett as a Nickel corner. I really do not see the need myself, surly the reason we matched the Falcons offer sheet to Bush was that when we drop into sub packages it will be a three Safety out there with Vaccaro,Bush and Byrd with Lewis and probably Bailey. I get picking up a tall rangy CB like Baptise,McGill or Desir in rounds 2-4 or a later project pick to play behind White,Robinson and Bailey for a year. I know you can never have enough quality at CB and Linemen but surely there are bigger needs if the BPA is a close call

Verrett offers one thing no other CB in the draft offers besides speed. unbelievable quickness. He has to be among the best CB in the past ten years when you are talking reaction time.

Any WR 6'0" or shorter that is a speed burner should not be an issue man on man. That why you draft a guy like this. man coverage on the fastest WR of average height. Let Lewis cover the tall guys and get safety help if they have speed also. Verrett is good enough to leave out there alone on the jitter bugs 90% of the time.

We do not have a CB that can cover these players. Plus he has no problem in run support and he is a solid tackler. Unlike most of the CB in the mid rounds.

Round 2/3

Baptise and McGill are not known for aggressive play and tackling skills are questionable. McGill does have a bit of a injury history also. Baptise is just learning the position plus has the best hands in the group.

Desir is a solid gamble. but his shuttle and cone drills were less than impressive. If i was to go with his combine numbers the word explosive would not come to mind.

How about the Gaines out of Rice. The kid just looks so smooth but he has aggressiveness issues also. But for the whole package he seems to the best package to gamble on.

Phillip Gaines would get my vote followed closely by Baptise then Desir

The best DB in 2/3 range is Deon Buccannon Washington St. hands down the best hands of any safety or CB in this range. Baptise is a close second. Aggressiveness is not an issue, you actually need to calm him down a bit.

Rounds 4-6

This is the area i think that could give you the biggest bang for your buck.
in the next few rounds Walt Aikens and Dontae Johnson. Then you have an injury flier option on Aaron Colvin

Actually I agree with the NFL Draft Scout comparison of Pierre Desir, Lindenwood to a Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie...

And that Walt Aikens to Keenan Lewis; ironically, Aikens is actually slightly bigger, though as Shakespeare's Caesar would say the he 'has a lean and hungry look' or as Apollo Creed would say "eye of the tiger"...

Qualities we must have in our defenders...

Just watched my first Kyle Fuller highlight video. I like this guy in round 1.
