Re: Offensive Line (educational)

Here is the catch.. Even if we matched Nicks offer would you be ok with paying 14.8M to nicks? That is his cap hit in 2012.
Carl Nicks Contracts, Salaries, Cap Hits, & Transactions

So in 2012 Drews new contract opened up 1.3M and Nicks went from 2.6M in 2011 to 14.8M in 2012 +10.2 million Dollars. That is = to Jhari Evans and Colston combined.

17M Cap hit is too much for Drew but 15m is ok for a guard? Sorry, not buying that crapola.

I never said match, I said if he would have taken basically what we offered.
No lineman is worth what Tampa gave him.

It wasn't directed at you. I was probably composing when you posted.

Nicks, Bushrod, Fujita... All left for more than we were going to pay. Nothing to do with Brees.

When he restructures in the offseason his contract will not have affected our oline one bit.

Yeah, but Tampa structured it that way to take advantage of all the cap space they had at the time. In 2013 his cap hit is a whopping 3 million (LOL!!!)

2012- 15 million
2013- 3 million
2014- 9 million
2015- 10 million
2016- 10 million

Basically he's a 9 million/year O-lineman.

Making Nicks the highest paid/year guard in the NFL. No team can afford two of them AND a top shelf LT.
2013 NFL Top Average Salaries - Guard
2013 NFL Top Average Salaries - Left Tackle

I know I am going to get roasted for this but its my gut feeling based on what I see from our receiving corps. Meachem, Moore, Colston are getting into their 6th, 7th, and 8th seasons and they are not as healthy or fast as they were in 2009/2010. One could say I have no clue but when you look at what was brought in this year you see clones of them. Stills/Moore, Toon/Colston Toon's hands are crap, Meachem/Hendersons replacement is Morgan but he cant stay healthy.

You aren't gonna get roasted by me. I'm seeing the same thing. Receivers slow off the line -- not getting to the ball. Maybe that's why we see Drew throwing it short.

The Center has to have the highest football IQ of all the linemen. This had always been the standard.

“I’m just nasty,” Lelito said. “I like hurting people. I like going out there and getting after it, and I definitely like a challenge. If someone says, ‘Hey, here’s this All-American defensive lineman’ or something like that, I like to go in there and test myself. Give them a little pancake action. Pour some syrup on them.”
I wonder if this cat has a future at Center?

De la Puenta is our Center by default... not skill.

He became the starting Center when Kreutz retired mid season in 2011. before that he played for Seattle x2, San Francisco x2, Carolina, and Kansas City all in a matter of 4 years. Never Starting until Kreutz got hurt and retired.
