Go after Charles Brown: Saints left tackle Charles Brown had a miserable day last week against the Rams and was eventually benched because of it.

Brown had the unenviable task of having to keep defensive end Robert Quinn at bay, and he could not. Quinn, who’s on a short list for Defensive Player of the Year, sacked quarterback Drew Brees twice while going up against Brown, and his pressure on Brees on the Saints’ first play helped cause an interception.

Saints head coach Sean Payton yanked Brown in the third quarter and moved right tackle Zach Strief to the left side, and Payton has not guaranteed Brown will reclaim his spot for Sunday’s game.

It will be up to Greg Hardy to emulate the type of disruption Quinn caused if the Panthers want to be as successful. Hardy – and the rest of the defensive line for that matter – didn’t get much pressure on Brees, and Hardy finished with one tackle, zero sacks and zero quarterback hits going up against Brown.

The Panthers could use a performance from Hardy like the one he gave in Week 3 against the Giants, when he went up against left tackle Will Beatty and used his speed and athleticism to sack Eli Manning three times en route to winning NFC defensive player of the week.

That's going to be a bit difficult now since Brown isn't playing.

What Payton will do if the kittens are able to get past Armstead and pressure Brees.

Will he put in extra protection or pull him and go back to Brown?

I sure hope not; we know Brown didn't work for us...

Let him play and learn/adapt, if he can't, then we know what we need to do this offseason...

Sure wish we could merge some of these threads as there's some real good discussion but just hard to follow all over the place...

Should of benched Brown earlier/ Gave Armstead more reps before just throwing out in the water, I think we need more than 2 games to asses what we have with Terron.

Brown held his ground in game one so if the kid falter then he will get in there i am sure. if brown falters welcome the strief switch yet again.

Re: Starting Armstead - Good move?

I have mixed feelings about this. Brown was horrible last week and deserved to be pulled. He has been up and down this season in general. I think he had a great game against Carolina though and it makes me wonder if this is the game they need to change. Brown faced them once and is familiar with the way the Panthers players block and has practice against them. Armstead on the other hand doesn't. I do think we need a change at that position but do t know if this week is the time to do it. If Payton thinks Armstead is an upgrade then there it is.

Also all they said is that Armstead is starting. They could pull him after three snaps and put Brown back in for all we know.
I really do hope that Armstead is the answer at that position though. Brown is too shakey.

Re: Starting Armstead - Good move?

I think there's more to the Brown benching than ability alone. I

n his interviews something doesn't sound right about Brown. Granted, I know nothing of the situation but to me Brown isn't the future LT for this team.

BUT - he's better than Armstead (at the moment).

To me this is more about a conflict btwn Coach and Player than anything else.

Does any fan honestly know that? I for one have not seen him play and he may be playing loads better and more consistent than Brown has been...

Payton seems to have more confidence in Armstead, has to be logical reasoning behind it...

I agree. None of us have even seen him practice. Ill go with the coachh who brought us a Super Bowl. He knows what he is doing. I dont think he would put Armstead in at this point in the season, wiwth this big of a game on the line if he didnt think he could get the job done.
