I miss Carmichael calling the plays. Payton's year off was supposed to make him enlightened and instead he took over play calling duties and blew it big time this season.

There were some very dubious decisions made by the coaching staff today.

As to why they were made, I guess we we will never really know.

I still have faith, but that doesn't make today's game less awful.

If you cant trust your offensive line to protect your future hall of fame QB its hard not to be scared. Drew has been running for his life and picking himself up off the ground waaaaaay too much this year. Everything comes down from the offensive line, its a trickle down effect from there.
Drew has turned the ball over waaayyyy less than he did last season and that is amazing seeing as his line is even worse.
I guess what I am sayin is that Payton was of the mindset "damned if you do damned if you dont.
Drew throws and interception or doesnt get a first down throwing the ball and everyone would be crying that Payton should have run it because our running game was kind of working for once.

Payton has real issues with playcalling

He says in training camp he will committ to the run, goes away from it when we have success and then tries to go back to the run game when we should be passing it

Then when all we need is one first down, he calls 3 consecutive runs up the gut vs a 9 man front

He has certainly lost his edge, that year out did nothing but ruin our offense on his return

The way the defense was playing, I didn't have a problem with 3 straight runs. It just would have been nice if the OL could have blocked somebody.
