ATLANTA -- Defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu reached back slightly for his right hamstring at the start of Georgia Tech's pro day.

It didn't take long though for Attaochu to realize his hamstring was healthy and that he could perform without hesitation in front of NFL scouts on Friday.

"I think I did great," he said. "I surprised myself a little bit. I pushed through and I worked hard. That's all they want to see -- run fast and think fast."

Attaochu, Georgia Tech's career sacks leader, has progressed quickly since tearing his hamstring Jan. 25 at the Senior Bowl.

He missed the league's scouting combine last month in Indianapolis, but went through requisite interviews with several NFL teams, including Tennessee, the New York Jets, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Philadelphia and the New York Jets.

But it wasn't nearly the same as trying to prove himself on the field.

Scouts watched Attaochu and 13 other former Yellow Jackets do some of the same drills used at the combine each year.

Attaochu, who's hoping to be drafted in the second or third round next month, said several scouts told him that he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

He reported no problems with changing directions quickly during shuttle drills.

"Being able to show the scouts my athletic ability today was great," Attaochu said. "The film shows that, but being able to reassure them out here at pro day."

Attaochu doesn't seem to lack confidence in talents.

At 6-foot-3, 242 pounds, he's not built big like the NFL's prototypical defensive ends, but Attaochu doesn't fit the mold of an exclusive third-down pass rusher.

Regardless, Attaochu said he's as good in coverage as he is in reaching the quarterback, either coming from a three-point stance or from edge as a linebacker.

"The league is getting more versatile," he said. "They need guys like me that can stand up and put their hand in the ground. That definitely works to my advantage."

If I remember correctly, we had a higher interest in Attaochu at the Senior Bowl also.

Jeremiah Attaochu 6032 252 4.60 ain't a bad thing

Attaochu ran his 40-yard dash times in the late 4.5, early 4.6 range with a 37.5-inch vertical jump,
4.64 short shuttle
7.28 three cone drill.
1.55 10-yard split would have ranked him tops among all linebackers at the combine.

Watching video clips of him sure he can rush a passer but what impresses me is his play down the line of scrimmage when the play is away from him. back side run support is there. Now getting through the was on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage is unreal for a guy this tall. then the adjustment angles as he works his way through the wash are solid to cut off a play. that to me was his strongest talent. reminded me of another former yellow jacket that wore the black and gold. Pat Swilling. the only hole i see in the kids game is coverage skills. then again he probably was not asked to do much of that

What I like about Attaochu is that he is a three-down linebacker, and that's why, regardless of rankings, he's a first round selection and a perfect fit for the Saints...

At the Senior Bowl he lined up in multiple positions (MLB, WLB, SLB, DE) and coaches raved how well he listened, trusted them, and progressed...

They were surprised to see him cover running backs out of the backfield as well as he did...

I'm banging the drum for him as the 27th pick if Philly doesn't grab him first...

the only area of concern is dropping into coverage. i do not think he has done much of it so it is a coaching issue only.

he is looking to be a spoiler in the media ranking as a player picked in round 1 they missed. then again i think the media read each others reviews and then write there own. very few actually spend a saturday watching games. much less reviewing tapes.

I was not kidding he looked like Swilling the way he moved through traffic. I was amazed. he is probably the only player i have seen this year look that good going through the wash on both sides of the ball.

your man crush might have some serious substance to it.

I think Fin, Lee and Rubgy were all right in that it's great discussing mock drafts as you get to see, reflect on other's opininons on the team, draft needs, prospects, best fits...

When I go online and research, one of the things I look for in the scripts is the source of basis of the opinions; and you're right that many of them are just regurgitating others material...

But when you read an article that mentions something not seen in other reports whether contrary, or slightly askew, you remember the writer and you google their name and a prospects name and sometimes, you hit gold...

But Attaochu is trending, I hope right to No. 27 where we pick...

i live for the draft. heck i would start this thread up on day 1 of the college regular season.
i do have a problem i admit it and only has gotten worse with dual screen and pip and advancements in remote controls. DVDR is the greatest thing since sliced bread

Seems to be dropping in plenty of mocks and its a slight weak spot in the team. Good in coverage and knows how to tackle.Litle scared of his long term health but even if he only lasted the length of his rookie deal he would prove excellent value.

(I think he is too good a CB to miss.The injury is a concern but there is enough depth especially with Bailey that if he sits out the year on IR he will have plenty of time to rehab and learn his role before pushing for a start next year.Somebody is going to take the risk

I like this draft...

Nitpicking:
Still don't like taking a Centre that high, but at 91 and it being Richburg, could live with that...

Inside Linebacker is not a slight weakness, it was EXPOSED by the other kids in Seattle; Mosley's health, treadwear is a concern...

You're right in that Colvin could come in get healthy and build up strength, but taken that high, but I like him for a fifth or sixth and will try that in my mock attack?!?

Just Don't like Halapio - I think better, versatile options will be available, like Carolina's Russell Bodine or Vandy's Wes Johnson...

Would love to snag Norwood in the latter rounds, but I don't think he'll be there past round 4 or alot of team or going to be sorry...
