this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I am asking why we never get guys who make impacts in their ROOKIE years. We draft players entirely CAPABLE of making an impact in their rookie seasons. Coaching stops them from making that impact....

Past, present, and future draft question
Well Haz\'s 1st draft we had a 2nd, 4th and a bunch of 7th\'s. So that wasn\'t exactly a fair draft for evaluation.
Good impact-rookie players we\'ve drafted of late... Charles Grant LeCharles Bentley Darren Howard Montrae Holland (not really an impact, but pretty solid) Mike Karney (wish we used him more) Donte Stallworth (best season was as rookie) Terrell Smith Courtney Watson If you\'re looking for a Randy Moss type impact player thats not really fair. A Moss comes along about every 20 years. Failures so far... Jonn Sullivan (approaching Bustville at Mach-5) Devery Henderson (Would Donterrious Thomas have helped us more?) Jon Stinchcomb (Should have drafted for need instead) Sedrick Hodge (although he is a starter, he\'s unimpressive, but not a bust) James Allen (posterboy for measureables over intangibles, but can ) Cie Grant (although injuries should exempt players from being labeled busts, this guy was gonna be solid as soon as they moved him to WLB) |

Past, present, and future draft question
Hey Danno, these were the players I listed initially: Roy Williams(Dallas and Detroit) Anquan Boldin, Roethlisberger, Carr, Randy Moss, Terrence Newman, Trufant, Dunta Robinson, Vilma, D.J. Johnson, Julius Peppers, Kearse. Moss came up later and I know very well how rare a talent he is. But we don\'t even get players like these other guys. LeCharles Bentley was a great guard from the get go, seems the coaches forgot that and decided to tamper with success.
WhoDat. I agree with you for the most part. The coaching has a lot to do with the impact players actually are able to make as rookies, but what about actual talent? Like I listed Kevin Williams is an excellent DT for Minnesota, yet we drafted Sully 3 slots before him. Gaffes like that, but I guaa that falls on the front office also. |
