Meaning we get one each in a two year span.

A scenario we don't get two ones is if we get a trading partner, say Miami...

Saints, Fins, and the Graham's hematophagites agree in principle to dependent series of exchanges...

Graham signs the Franchise Tender...

Graham's rights secured, he is traded to Miami for a compensation package (i.e. this year's first and third)...

Miami and Graham settle on a long term contract before the NFL deadline for same...

Problem for the Saints in that scenario, New Orleans still gets hit with some salary cap love by Graham on the way out of the door...

But it allows the Saints to still sign one impact player this season and it gets the ball rolling to addressing personnel needs...

Where is it out lined that there are options other than 2 FRDPs from the team he signs with?

You still went through a convoluted series of hoops to lose 9m in cap space. If you have 9m in cap space to lose just grab the best 9m talent that hits free agency and save your self the headaches.

Everyone diving into the musical chairs when just letting him go is easier, and your getting a whole hell of a lot better proven value for your dollar.

The fact that the Saints love Graham seems to be being ignored. If they had 9m to spare, they would offer it.

Oh yea.... If Jimmy wants 12m, why again is he signing a 7m tender? You missed one party in your plan. What does Jimmy get?

Really, truly enjoy many of your posts as they're very insightful and shows you're looking for the story within the story...

I like that...

But, you should slow down as you don't read things thoroughly - see second to last line of my post and pause...

And in the last line is the apologia for why the Saints would still geaux through with that scenario...

And you vehemently disagreed that the Saints should geaux Franchise Tag, Non-Exclusive and that's exactly what happened...

Just offered a scenario whereby Graham would geaux without the Saints getting two firsts, not advocating it...

And I will miss Graham as he's been my favorite Saints since he hit training camp as a Rookie and I was there...

But there's too dam# much money tied up in too few players, including Brees who can't throw the long ball any longer...

We've got to get a better distribution of talent in the respective units and I fault Loomis as a poor negotiator...

Nope. Read it clearly. Graham gets paid twice. That's why I asked where is his motivation. Graham getting 12m x 2 ..... Seriously, that's your plan? If the Saints offer him. WR tag, he will sign it. That will be 12m in dead money + 3m to sign two picks.
15m transaction.

Who could we sign in FA with 15m to burn?...

So..... How does it work in the real world where all parties actually get something they would agree to.

I am certain that some of that salary would count against the other team involved. Just makes sense

No, I made ONE post about not tagging him because it left Loomis with a hard number.

The rest have been about all this trade rigamaroll.

So you'll need to list all of my vehemence. I don't recall it.

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract

Let me spell it out...

If Graham, a Team Trade Partner (i.e. Dolphins), and Saints sit down and agree on a conditional series of actions...

Jimmy signs the franchise tender at 7 mil (Saints Cap Hit) for this season on the condition of...

The new team will sign, extend him with guaranteed money that both have reached on previous agreement...

The cap hit for the Saints will be approximately 7mil (the current TE number)...

Jimmy's rights secured, he's traded for a package other than the two first round draft picks...

Once the new team (i.e. Dolphins) has his rights they're free to extend the contract prior to the NFL deadline in the summer to a mutual satisfactory number that both the new team and Jimmy had agreed...

This scenario has happened and was offered as an optional scenario that could happen...

Motivations?

Saints have a finite, salary committment of 7mil for this year only to move Graham on; are able to get a compensatory package to offset his loss; and begin relieving themselves of committing large salary cap numbers to just a handful of players...

Jimmy has the financial compensation package that is his and his representatives priority...

Dolphins have a college hometown hero, bona-fide NFL star to augment their offense and compete in the AFC East...
