The art of a good negation.

But I agree with you 1000% here. 12 million a year? No friggin way I'd do that. No way Jimmy. No way man. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Hope the Saints are not stupid enough to sign him to more than 8 mil/year...
Tight Ends do not have a healthy career span, much like running backs... Yes, Graham's been a freak of nature, but look how long A Gates was able to maintain that level of play... Say what you want about the Chargers, but they played out Gates well... Tag him, non-exclusive, and if a team wants to give up two 1's, so be it... We'll have gotten some terrific yardage, touchdowns, All-Pro Recognition (as a Tight End) and two first round picks for a third round pick... And guess what, we'll find another tight end to rack up the stats in our system, or better yet... We can FINALLY throw the ball to our highly invested receiver... His name is Marques Colston and he doesn't dunk it on ever single touchdown... |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
I remember just a few seasons ago that according to sources, Pierre Thomas was supposedly looking for Steven Jackson money.
So uhhhh... okay "sources". |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
I don't like it but they will probably settle for 9-10 mil.
|
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
6 years for 60 million
It's going to get done whether Saints fans like it or not. I know one thing for certain, I'm going to be damn thrilled. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Same deal as Gronkowski or see ya. $9 million/year at the most.
|
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Does the contract say he has to learn how to block and not be a wimp when a defender gets physical with him? Because it should

6 more years of Brees to Graham then dunk. Yeah, I can dig that! |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
The Saints system is built to have a highly paid QB with medium paid recievers, you mess up the system if you pay more than 8 mil.
|
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
He has to become a better blocker to be elite in my opinion...They'll work out a deal though

We already have a highly paid QB with medium paid receivers. How does it mess up the system we already have in place? |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Trade him to Houston for two 1sts and a 2nd.

Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Jimmy might be a great athlete, but he is not a great tight end (can't block) and is not a great wide reciever (can't beat a true #1 corner). Without Payton putting him in favorable matchups and Brees getting him the ball, he'd be just another great athlete TE with average production like a Jermichael Finley or Jared Cook.
He wants $12 million, go find it somewhere else. We won a Super Bowl with a broken-down Jeremy Shockey as the starting TE and a defense that wasn't even half as good as the one we got now. I'd rather spend that money locking up Jordan, Hicks, Galette and others long-term and start turning this into a run-heavy offense. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
I guess this contract negotiation is the result of hanging out with Drew.
Get your money when you can, after all it is a business. |

12 million no freaking way :dunce: 10 million do not think so  8 million your getting warmer Elite Players do not vanish in big games. I mean vanish counter offer 2 mill and a bag of chip to be honest if he walked into the office demanding that contract my first reaction is this kid does not care about the state of the team. next reaction who wants this ### ? get on the phone and start talking asap. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Steve Jackson lost his money?
Who do I hitch my cart to? Garafolo - Graham wants 12m Loomis - we are going to tag him as a TE. It doesn't help that Jimmy keeps seeing the cap #s go up also. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Do you know how many good players we could get with 12 million a year. Hell Byrd from Buffalo is no where near 12 million and he shows up. I would let him walk because if we tag him it's only going to pi$$ him off and I don't think he would show up at all. We have TE's that can do the job, put some money in to beef up the O-line. There are even a few really polished TE's in the draft, I'm certain we could get a deep threat reciever or two with that money and have cap space to boot.

Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
I love JG but that would be ridicolous.

If he's really asking for that kind of money, I'd trade him on draft day for a couple 1st rounders
houston or oakland would easily give up their pick for JG |

Ive covered the sign him to trade him scenario. Your going to give him 12m a year to sign him? This is what a 12m/year contract looks like. Chris Long Salary Cap, Contracts, Salaries, Cap Hits, & News Profile As soon as you trade him you have at least 12m in dead money for this season. |

Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
March 3 - tagged
his move appeal - close call either way. TE vs WR he let it be known he is not happy and the saints are not either but we will not let him walk. now the vibes go out. the saints and grahams agent get calls on sign and trade deals. May 8th we get our answer. |

Have you taken into account that "tagged" is meaningless unless Jimmy agrees to it? If he doesn't sign that tag he is not tagged. You cant stop him from walking, he either walks to another team or walks home as a holdout. If he signs a TE tag of 6.7m or a WR tag of 11.6M, as soon as you trade him you will have no Jimmy graham but will have either 6.7m or 11.6m in dead money. A tag is guaranteed money, it does not follow the player. Your scenario leaves you with no Jimmy Graham and your cap space went from +7m to either dead broke or 4m over the cap. Either way what do you have to sign what you traded him for?:bng: |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
You can't demand 33% more than the highest paid guy (Gronkowski), and you're not going to get more than the WR tag.
Remember that his agent works for the same group as Condom, Brees' agent. Early hardball. |
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
No friggin way Jimmy. Team first dude then get your money. If you invest your money right, you can earn a total of 12 mil a year.
|
Re: Jimmy Graham demanding 12 million per season?
Go after Verner and draft best FS available. That secondary would be legit. Jimmy can walk...
