You represent at least 90% of the people who believe that. Every NFL scout disagrees, on top of the vast majority of fans.

Most fans don't know the difference between a Strong Safety and a Free Safety.

I know the difference quite well. Roman Harper was not asked to cover Calvin Johnson. He was asked to perform exactly the kind of coverage duties that all strong safeties have to do. And he stunk at it the majority of the time.

What makes you believe the Saints agree with you? Did they ever say he was great in coverage? Did they not just release him?

They kept him around this long because for years they invested nothing into the defense and didn't view his position as a priority. He was used as an extra linebacker for all intents and purposes, and everyone knows that. If he were "great" in coverage 90% of the time, they would not have drafted a safety in the first round last year, and spent 58 million or whatever it was on a another this year. They could have just kept the crap they already had.

But evidently, the Saints identified a problem and have finally decided to do something about it.

Let me explain something to you. When a team invests as much as this team has the last two years in upgrading it's safeties, it is not a moot point to bring up the struggles of Harper or Jenkins. It pertains to the conversation. But more importantly, why are you worried about two people who aren't talking to you? If what we're talking about doesn't matter then why are you even reading this, much less replying to it?

I'll tell you why. Because you're obviously bored like everyone else. I, for one, will talk about any player in the entire league if I so desire at any given moment.

I disagree that he stunk at it the majority of the time. He started for 4 different coordinators, made two pro-bowls, earned more game balls than anyone else on our defense under Gregg Williams. He was a classic SS that was too often a scapegoat for every problem this defense had.

When used as a strong safety, he played well. He was nowhere near as bad as many made him out to be. He's obviously not as good now as he used to be and his salary exceeded his contributions. Lance Moore was also released, did he suck? Jed Collins was released, did he suck? Scott Fujita was let go, did he suck? Jonathan Vilma wasn't resigned, at one time he was one of the best MLB's in the league, I guess he sucked too? We let Chris Ivory walk, did he suck? Joique Bell? Did he suck? Reggie Bush?
