In the First Round, Saints Pick Wide Reciever Brandin Cooks

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't know really. Not the guy I really wanted but seems to be a good player. I hope I'll get more excited over time....

He has a chip on his shoulder because of people knocking him because of height.

I kind of wanted Denard. Like I always say in Loomis I trust.

I also wanted Denard simply because he would have made our secondary air-tight but Hey if Cooks scores 2 against The Failcan'ts I'll quickly come around.

We still can address o-line and defense in this draft. Cooks is going to be a great slot receiver. Can't wait.

Walters Grade:

New Orleans Saints: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State: A- Grade
The Saints are giving up a third-round pick to move up from No. 27 to 20. I'd say it's worth it, considering they landed the top receiver available. Wideout was a big need for New Orleans; Marques Colston is always banged up, while Lance Moore is gone. Brandin Cooks will take Moore's spot and will be a huge upgrade. It's almost scary to imagine the Saints' offense now with Cooks joining Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham. Sean Payton will have lots of fun with Cooks.

Cooks has the legit 4.3 speed to stretch the field if he pleases.

Cooks is also a stellar route-running technician that can drive defenses crazy on 3rd down.

It's rare for a slot WR to have both of those traits. Usually they're either just speedsters or good route runners. Not very many guys (if any) have both. Cooks does.

Re: In the First Round, Saints Pick Wide Reciever Brandin Cooks

The thing that just kind of blows my mind is that we got Stills in the 5th round last year, but we had to trade up this year to get Cooks in the 1st round of a draft that was supposedly stacked with receivers. And they are very similar players. Is Cooks really THAT much better than Stills? And with Brees' accuracy issues last year especially on the deep ball, will we be able to take advantage of all this speed?

Like the player from what I've read, but I just can't stop thinking that we could've had Verrett, which would've really shored up our corner position, then still been able to snag a WR like Landry or Jordan Matthews in the 2nd.

Re: In the First Round, Saints Pick Wide Reciever Brandin Cooks

we get the same short, quick, sharp route runner we had in Sproles and add an deep threat. With him lined up in the slot and Jimmy controlling the middle, there's no way anybody will be able to load the box. We could have success with the run if we make an effort to get it going.
