NW Missouri State CB Brian Dixon tweets he's headed to Saints CBBRIAN DIXON NORTHWEST MISSOURI ST. MID-AMERICA GRADE 4.85 6'0" HEIGHT 32 5/8" ARM LENGTH 196LBS. WEIGHT 9" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Outstanding size and stature. Has a thick musculature and a frame to add bulk. Good straight-line speed and press strength to function in short areas. Flashes striking ability. Tough, competitive and very durable. Has free safety experience. WEAKNESSES Average eyes, instincts and anticipation. Leaky tackler. Very tight-hipped. Recorded a poor 4.59-second 20-yard shuttle time at his pro day, indicating very limited lateral agility. DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent BOTTOM LINE A big, strong, press corner with a chance to compete for a job in the boundary for a predominantly press-cover defense, though lack of fluidity could always be a liability. His brother was drafted by the jets |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: UDFA Signings
Derrick Strozier @D_Stro13 1m
God is good. Next stop.. Saints rookie camp #WhoDat Draft Scout Derrick Strozier News 10/14/13 - WEEK 7 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: The Defensive award went to a Tulane DB Derrick Strozier for the third straight week. Strozier came up with one of the biggest plays in Tulane's 36-33 triple overtime win against East Carolina. With the Green Wave clinging to a 9-6 advantage late in the third quarter, ECU had driven to the Tulane three-yard line with a chance to tie the game or take the lead. However, on first down, Strozier stepped in front of a Pirates receiver and intercepted a pass at the one-yard line and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown. It was second-longest interception return for a touchdown in school history. Strozier also added eight tackles (five solo), including one stop for minus-three yards, and was credited with a pair of pass breakups. Strozier becomes the first player to win weekly awards at two different positions since Marquese Wheaton of Southern Miss won Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week in a three-week span in October 2011. - Conference USA football 10/07/13 - WEEK 6 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tulane DB Derrick Strozier made history in last week's 24-21 victory over North Texas, becoming the first player in the 119-year history of Tulane football to return a blocked field goal for a touchdown. Green Wave sophomore Darion Monroe blocked a 38-yard attempt from North Texas' Zach Paul and Strozier picked up the loose ball and race 62-yards untouched for a third-quarter touchdown that gave Tulane a 14-7 lead. Strozier also added a team-best seven tackles on the day. - Conference USA football 10/28/12 - WR Derrick Strozier (hand) did not play against UAB. 09/30/12 - Derrick Strozier made his first career start on offense when he began the game against Louisiana-Monroe at running back. Strozier started eight games as a safety a year ago. 09/05/12 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: The absence of top rusher Orleans Darkwa (high ankle sprain) no doubt contributed to the absence of a running game in the opener, but the Green Wave has to find a way to run the ball better with or without Darkwa. The burden will be on an offensive line that featured four players making their first starts in the opener. Ryan Grant's 100-yard receiving game was encouraging, but the passing game needs to have a respectable running game to work with. PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB Derrick Strozier -- Although Tulane had only eight yards rushing last week, Strozier, a converted cornerback, contributed to the offense by catching six passes for 40 yards. - The Sports Xchange |

Re: UDFA Signings
Saints Nation Blog @SaintsNationBlg 51s
Looks like another Valdosta State player is coming to the Saints. Lawrence Virgil, a DE joins Seantavious Jones DT LAWRENCE VIRGIL VALDOSTA ST. GULF SOUTH GRADE 5.14 6'5" HEIGHT 34 1/2" ARM LENGTH 287LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/2" HANDS ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Excellent size -- has a big, well-proportioned frame with long arms and room for added bulk. Rare upper-body strength -- pumped 225 pounds 39 times at his pro day. Flashes the ability to jolt blockers. Moves well for his size -- opens up his stride in space and athleticism shows in pursuit. Has a 31-inch vertical. Durable three-year starter. Hardworking and respected. WEAKNESSES Exposes his frame and is too easily engaged. Can play with more consistent leverage. Technique needs to be coached up -- needs to learn to shoot his hands, stack and shed. Two-gap ability is a work in progress. Marginal lateral agility displayed in three-cone drill time (7.77 seconds). Did not consistently dominate marginal competition. Inconsistent intensity. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7 BOTTOM LINE Big, long-levered, Division II prospect with intriguing dimensions, strength and upside to warrant consideration as a developmental five-technique or perhaps three-technique. Is fairly raw and still growing into his body, but should only get stronger and more effective as he fills out his frame and makes technical strides. |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: UDFA Signings
Now this one may be worth a watch
Saints Nation Blog @SaintsNationBlg 1m this will make many of you happy. Saints sign WR Brandon Coleman of Rutgers WR BRANDON COLEMAN RUTGERS AAC COMBINE RESULTS GRADE 5.31 40y 4.56 SEC bench 21 REPS Top Performer vert 32.5 INCH 3 cone 7.33 SEC 20y shuttle 4.51 SEC 6'6" HEIGHT 34" ARM LENGTH 225LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/4" HANDS OVERVIEW Receiver-safety who also played basketball as a Maryland prep. Redshirted in 2010. Played all 13 games in each of his three seasons. Started five games in 2011 and recorded 17 receptions for 552 yards (32.5-yard average) and six touchdowns. Started nine games in 2012 and had 43 catches for 718 yards (16.7) and 10 TDs. Had off-season surgery on his right knee, which kept him out of 2013 spring practice and reportedly affected his play as a junior. In the fall, started all 13 contests and produced 34 catches for 538 yards (15.8) and four TDs. Team captain. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Outstanding size and body length -- presents a big target. Long arms enable him to slap away and swim off the jam. Covers ground with long strides. Tracks over his shoulder. Can post up smaller defensive backs. Has playmaking ability -- averaged nearly 22 yards per catch and scored on one out of every five catches over three seasons. Has sheer size to shield as a blocker. Team captain. WEAKNESSES Not an elite athlete. Has some buildup -- does not accelerate off the jam. Lacks big-time, explosive speed to blow by cornerbacks. Route running needs refinement. Not a confident hands catcher -- lets throws into his body and drops balls he shouldn’t. Shows some stiffness through his torso and is linear after the catch -- gears down to cut and elusiveness is limited. Marginal special-teams utility. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 3-4 BOTTOM LINE Big, tall, talented, West Coast receiver whose sheer size enables him to be effective outside the numbers, on slant routes and in the red zone, though inconsistency has prevented him from reaching his potential. Has the look of a No. 2 receiver, but his production fell off as a junior (played through a knee injury). He could have used another season to polish his skills. |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: UDFA Signings
Yes! Now that's the kind of signing I was hoping to see! If we can just get Christian Jones as well then I'll feel a lot better about today.

Saints sign Boston College DE Kasim Edebali DEKASIM EDEBALIBOSTON COLLEGE ACC COMBINE RESULTS GRADE 5.11 4.79 SEC 40 19 REPS bench 34.5 INCH vert 115.0 INCH broad 7.20 SEC 3 cone 4.35 SEC 20shuttle 6'2" HEIGHT 32 3/4" ARM LENGTH 253LBS. WEIGHT 9 1/2" HANDS OVERVIEW The native of Hamburg, Germany, arrived in the United States in 2007 as part of the USA Football International Student Program; although he had played American football (he was a tight end for the German under-19 national team at the 2006 European Championships), he spoke limited English. After playing for a New Hampshire prep school for two years, he enrolled at Boston College and redshirted as a freshman in 2009. Played in 13 games in '10, including four starts at defensive end, and had 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted. Started 12 games in '11 and had 27-.5-0 with five passes batted. In 11 starts in '12, he registered 59-7.5-1.5 with four passes batted and one forced fumble. Missed the Clemson game with a shoulder injury. Had a solid senior season in '13, starting all 13 games and tallying 67-14-9.5 with five passes batted and three forced fumbles. Team captain. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Good get-off. Shows an arm-over to defeat tackles. Has some disruptive ability to penetrate gaps. Reads plays and locates the ball. Uses his arms to create room to operate. Good motor in pursuit -- forces runs outside and chases to the boundary. Strong tackler. Tries to disrupt passing lanes. Intelligent and articulate. Hardworking, well-respected captain with a professional approach to the game. Three-year starter. Graded very highly vs. Ohio State. WEAKNESSES Lacks ideal size. Overpowered at the point of attack. Pops up off the snap. Needs to develop pass-rush moves and use his hands more violently. Average flexibility, foot speed and change of direction -- exposed in space and shows when he runs the arc. Power element missing. Will be a 24-year-old rookie. DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7 BOTTOM LINE High-motor, effort-based pass rusher who could warrant developmental consideration as a situational 4-3 rush end or stand-up 3-4 linebacker. Is not a natural, physically gifted hunter, but football smarts, competitiveness and effort give him a chance. |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!
