Yea and CBs are kinda the same way. Usually take a couple of years to really hit their stride. I hope Baptiste is as ready as Cooks. Sounds to me like he is a little more raw than some of the others that were picked around him but has more of an upside.

Stanley Jean-Baptiste SJB as we know is 2 years into learning the CB position. even though at times it is obvious that the switch is not natural to him he shows a solid football IQ to be were he is. At times he runs WR and not a defenders route and get burned big time.

Now introduce a professional route tree in the mix and i fear we will see him struggle even more. But I have faith in a few years he will be good enough to cover most WR in the NFL as long as they are not those fast Jitter bugs.

recognizing some of the more complex screens and run games will also expose his lack of aggressive play and limited reaction time while he learns.

the biggest issue though will be defending a pro route tree and knowing where your help is or not when defending. that in my opinion is the reason for the learning curve, running a route tree is easier than reacting to the route. that has to become more reactionary than reading were the WR is going.

trust at times you will wonder were the kids head is at but others you will see why they picked him.

Bucannon was hands down the best DB in the media rankings in this draft range, he is still my #2 DB in the draft. due to one thing. reactions in coverage. pro route tree should not give him much trouble. SJB will need time to stop being a WR at times and become a DB 100% of the time.

The more I read about him the more I kinda wonder about this pick. I hope he does learn fast. Like someone else said the CB position seems to take a couple of years for players coming out of the draft to start to play well anyway.

see that is the big issue with him. do you really know because he has played the position for just two years. At times you will want to throw some thing at the TV when he gives up inside position so easily. Other times he will amaze you. take the good with bad.

Right now the first thing he must do is get more physical because in no way is he ready to cover anything but tall lumbering WR and TE. I feel pretty good about him covering Mike Evens or Kevin Benjamin. if he gets more aggressive. which i think he can pick up pretty fast with pro coaching. Plus forcing him to cover Jimmy in practice will help big time

Allen Robinson and Jordan Mathews might make me a bit antsy. they are a bit more speedy finesse WR. But that is were Colston can help the kid

Anything faster or quicker i would be holding my breath. let him chase cook around the feild if you think he is getting to cocky

This is a long term developmental project all riding on this kids upside. man o man coverage with limited flexibility as to his package use is where i see him right now. he is a specialty nickle and dime guy. no way is he ready to start.

second round was a reach IMO for any of the CB left on the board but the saints hand may have been forced by trading away their third round pick. same goes for OC. they were all gone for the most part by round 4. SP drafting of cook limited us big time.

but SP must have his toys.

If you are to take reach SJB was a solid pick at CB of the ones left. If he gets it all together he can be a turn over machine. best hands of any well he was a WR.

How can you not be over the moon about the selection. For months in conversations about the cornerbacks we would have the ability to draft his name kept coming up. Payton said that SJB was the best CB on there draft board at the time, and I believe him.... The only thing that would have made SJB a better pick was if in the fourth round when they picked they would have went cornerback again and selected Pierre Desir... because all SBJ would have to do then is cover lumbering WRs and Tight Ends.... Desir went one pick after Khairi Fortt....

I think yes he is a project to be a #2. But there's no pressure. Corey White, Patrick Robinson, and Champ Bailey can split #2 CB snaps while this kid learns...... By the way his got a great set of teachers..... Rob Ryan, Keenan Lewis, and Champ Bailey..... he's gonna be covering Lumbering TE's and WR's while he gets accustomed to the route trees of the better receivers in the leugue... but what has the NFC south become but Lumbering TE's and WRs.... ( Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, Roddy White etc)

i like the pick but i am also trying to objective about the kid. I also agree he was the best CB on the board at the time. There really is no pressure i agree also. CB was not an area of greatest need IMO to begin with.

I like the pick I can accept the pick but it was not a pick of great need IMO. He was the best CB on the board but not the BPA so it was a reach. I honestly thought Allen Roberston, Morgan Mosses, Charles Sim, Marcus Martin, were BPA ahead of him to name a few. so we reached a bit on need so be it. i am cool with it.

In a few years we will absolute love this pick IMO.

Thanks..... Question for you.

Assuming (I know about that word LOL), but assuming Rob Ryan makes him better (not shut-down good but better) who would you rather on Julio Jones? Robinson, Baptiste, White, Sweeting.... (In order)
