Saints' Champ Bailey: Redskins name like N-word
Hard to disagree with him.
METAIRIE – Count Champ Bailey amid the growing number of people who believe that it is time for Washington’s NFL franchise to change its controversial name. The New Orleans Saints veteran cornerback, who broke into the NFL as Washington’s first-round pick in 1999, told USA TODAY Sports that the racial insensitivity of the word “Redskins” is reason enough for the team to make the bold move of changing the name. “When you hear a Native American say that ‘Redskins’ is degrading, it’s almost like the N-word for a black person,” Bailey told USA TODAY Sports. “If they feel that way, then it’s not right. They are part of this country. It’s degrading to a certain race. Does it make sense to have the name?” http://www.shreveporttimes.com/artic...11013/-1/state |

Re: Saints' Champ Bailey: Redskins name like N-word
funny i have talked to many native American and i have gotten a mixed result of responses about this. most do not mind and kinda ok with it. others are like champ offended. I work and lived on the reservation while i was in minnesota for over ten years and this topic was talked about a lot.
most say it is not so much the word redskin associated with football that offends them It is Washington DC that is very offensive to the native American. Drop Washington and they will be happy DC Redskins would work. Washington DC attached to anything native american is offensive a name change would cool altogether but i love the fact that they hate the city more than than the word. i LMAO many times when i heard this over and over again. never got old. I told them if they did not like it they could go home to their native country. that always got a good laugh out of the elders being that i was usually the only pale face in the group truth baby truth. |

NO -
N-Word is not the same thing for a black person. Calling a Black person, Black is the same thing as a Redskin. People need to chill the F out with this hyper sensitivity. |

I got no dog in this race.... I guess until I lose a job or client for something I said recorded in my private home, or 20 years ago, or they force the Saints to change their name because it's a religious name associated with the Catholic Church.
Political correctness is sad and out of control. None of this will benefit the actual people who are "discriminated" against, will only benefit the NFL in selling more merchandize. Redskins is a term from another time but brings light to Native Americans, a people mostly forgotten. So I guess they'll just be called "the Hogs" or something and Native Americans will be totally forgotten now. |

Re: Saints' Champ Bailey: Redskins name like N-word
i am sorry but till a word is not used at all by both parties i can not take the debate serious.
i have never heard one Indian call another Indian redskin. so the argument holds more water than the "N" word does. the color of the person using should make no difference. If the "N" word is used by definition to judge a person a bigot. then a bigot is a bigot no matter the person color. other wise by definition it is an act of discrimination. "N" word makes me giggle. man o man we have not gotten far with using PC as a guide line. |
