........... seriously where does this crap come from. and why do people keep repeating it, like somehow that is gonna make it more legitimate. I will guarantee with every last dime I own that if some highly successful \"underling\" comes to \'rescue\' the saints, he will be have his nuts in the wringer by season end. I know that you know this franchise way better than that Whodat. Seriously, all boloney aside, do you really believe that this organization, with it\'s well documented history, will respond to an unproven head coach? Maybe for a season, sound familiar? but beyond that things will quickly unravel. Critics will say that Ditka was a steaming pile...... and so he was, I don\'t deny it. But he is not got anywhere near the savvy that Jimmy J does. It is almost like shooting fish in a barrel to attack this line of thinking, but mark my words, If Jimmy J comes back to coaching he will know what success feels like. Crennel would be the perfect fit for many clubs, but not ours. Maybe we should keep Haslett? can I get a 4 more years? |

Retreds are hard to predict.
But I would agree with Scotty that someone with too much to lose in terms of reputation probably doesn\'t want to come here. My only coaching criteria are. 1. Someone from TOTALLY outside the organization. 2. Someone who gets passed over a lot. 3. Someone with something to prove 4. Someone with a track record of success in the pro ranks 5. Someone who will see this as his one shot and WILL NOT tolerate failure. So if you want to talk older coaches, the only one I can think of that fits the bill is Art Shell. Last year I would have put Lovie Smith and Romeo Crennell in that category. This year, I think that Childress from Philly is a good candidate. Romeo is a dream candidate for us, but he\'s going to get his pick of several places I would think. [Edited on 4/12/2004 by BrooksMustGo] |

My humble plan for Benson...
Hire a football guy GM and let him make ALL the decisions, pay him, show up at the dome Sunday, watch football, get drunk, eat some awesome grub and enjoy the golden years. You will be more loved for such a minimal effort than you\'d ever imagine. |

Why is no one bringing up Jim Johnson from Philly. This guy would solve our biggest need which is on the defensive side of the ball. He has proved that his system works with whatever players they plug in there. Just a thought.
