Re: 2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart
Yes but the heat should be on every player that suits up, if any starter would get beat out and so-be-it ,thats the only way to improve at each position. I never have liked the thought of being penciled in that only makes things weak.

Re: 2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart
True...but the salary cap and the escalation penalties have made it prohibitive from cutting a player; hence, you get got penciled in like Grubbs, Lofton...

Re: 2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart
But that works both ways. This season, Lofton will have to play at a level that proves he can't be replaced by a $4million/year LBer. Hawthorne will have to play better than a $3million. Otherwise, it's cheaper to cut them eat the dead money and pay a much cheaper player.

Re: 2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart
Utah, per OverTheCap, cutting Lofton and Hawthorne would result in "Cap Savings" of ($2,800,000) and ($1,020,000), respectively; of note when a value is in parenthesis, that's a negative, so they're penciled in, at least to the roster...
But Payton, which is why I love the Coach, will not let that stop him from starting or playing the better player more... Source: » Over the Cap- New Orleans Saints 2014 Salary Cap and Contracts |

Re: 2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart
Nice link, JP. It shows we have about $13 million in dead money right now.
Now just what could we do with an additional $13 million? | |
